As a tutor, I love seeing my students progress from being lost or frustrated in their course to saying "I can do this!" I believe chemistry should be fun. But personal experience has also shown me the feeling of being stuck in a downward spiral. The struggle to master concepts causes frustration and anxiety, destroying their self-confidence and interest, which in turn makes learning even more difficult. To break out of this spiral, I work to help students relax and find humorous or personally relatable ways to understand and remember concepts. I then work with them to simplify the "wild world of chemistry" into something more systematic that works better for the individual student's natural thought processes.

I graduated from Texas Christian University with a Ph.D. in Chemistry (specifically Materials Chemistry) and spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the FDA. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. As an undergraduate student, I worked as a lab teaching assistant in introductory labs for engineers, as well as analytical chemistry. This continued in my doctoral work, where I TA'd three semesters of general chemistry lab and one of quantitative chemistry. I also spent two semesters as an assistant adjunct instructor of a general chemistry lab, where I worked with the head professor to design lab experiments, prepare lab TAs, give lectures, and design/grade assignments/tests.

Throughout my professional career, I have tutored students from introductory high school chemistry to upper-level university inorganic chemistry. Each student had different needs such as concept clarification, extra practice problems, time management skills, or test-taking strategies. By tailoring lessons to individual students, they were able to successfully meet their goals, and hopefully, have a little more fun in the process.

Chemistry

I recently graduated from TCU with my PhD in chemistry.  I spent 6 semesters TAing general chemistry and quantitative analysis, and several semesters tutoring undergraduates as well.  I earned several awards during this time for my ability to make chemistry approachable for students struggling with the concepts.

Knowledgeable, kind and relatable

Anne is very knowledgeable, kind and relatable. She helps with the struggle of not remembering Chemistry from 4 years ago and never makes you feel like "you should know this". She shows how to do the work and any shortcuts, but only if you feel comfortable using the shortcuts. She relates the problems and similar problems to real world events.

Helping My Son Finish Chemistry

Anne is helping my son to finish an online, Honors Chemistry class. We homeschool and needed a tutor to help him. Anne has been great. My son enjoys the sessions, which began last year. Once he's done, he will have completed two years of Honors Chemistry and we are grateful for Anne's guidance and teaching. I'm glad I found her.

Chemistry

My son was struggling to understand Chemistry equations. Anne was patient and understanding. By the end of the session he understood what he had to do. We will definitely be contacting her should anymore issues arise.

Extremely knowledgable and great!

Anne has been incredible with her help in chemistry, one of the most difficult college courses. She is extremely patient and is able to break concepts down so that they are easy to understand. Additionally, she goes out of her way to answer questions and always responds very quickly. Couldn't have succeeded in the course without her help!

Helpful and accessible

Anne worked with my senior who was falling behind in AP Chem. They discussed some specific concepts my senior was struggling with, and she feels more confidant now.
