Hello there!
My name is William E. I am an aspiring physician currently enrolled at the Arkansas College of Health Education. I was valedictorian of my high school class, graduated from Hendrix College in 2016, and spent 4 years working in an education centered non-profit called City Year. If you are interested in tutoring, particularly in math and science, I would be an excellent resource to tap into.
If you haven't heard of City Year, allow me to give you a short introduction. It is an AmeriCorps Program that places Student Success Coaches in schools to assist students who would otherwise "fall through the cracks". These Corps Members act as near-peer mentors, tutors, and coaches, working inside the schoolhouse with teachers to provide targeted intervention style support to students who need it. I love the organization, especially because of it's incredibly powerful and positive culture. City Year centers itself on 10 core values that I resonate with:
1. Service to a Cause Greater than Self
2. Students First, Collaboration Always
3. Belief in the Power of Young People
4. Justice for All
5. Level 5 Leadership
6. Empathy
7. Inclusive for All
8. Ubuntu
9. Teamwork
10. Excellence
I spent my 4 years with the organization working in elementary schools as a Student Success Coach, moving into a Team Leader roll in my second year, and finishing my service as an Impact Manager. I have very direct experience working with students K-5th, but I've trained other tutors in both math and literacy for students ranging the entirety of K-12. Additionally, since my years of service, I've continued my own education in graduate school, with higher level biological science courses at the Arkansas College of Health Education in Fort Smith (where I am currently still enrolled). If you have a student that needs some extra support, or perhaps you also find yourself on a pre-med track and would like to tap someone who is further down that road, please reach out and let's organize a session.
