Welcome to my profile! My name is Crystal and I have been providing tutoring and mentoring services for over two decades. I have always had a passion for helping/educating others as I feel education is the gateway to any measure of success in life. My military experience allowed me the opportunity to provide tutoring/mentoring services to underprivileged youth and see the direct impact I was having on the children over the course of the school year. It was these experiences that motivated me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology and then to go further and complete a master’s degree in the same field. I believe that my military experience combined with the formal training I received in my graduate program through hundreds of hours of supervised training with clients helps me apply the right level of toughness and nurturing to my tutoring clients in order to get the best from them.
I understand many people coming to tutoring are doing so because they lack knowledge of the material. I also understand that the idea of that can be frustrating or can cause one to experience lowered self-esteem. My number one goal is to improve self-esteem and build confidence. Once a learner begins to feel better and see themself in a better light, their mind can shift and allow the learning process to begin. With that being said, my strongest areas of tutoring are English, Spelling, Phonics, Reading, basically anything ELA-based. I also have experience with, and enjoy, early elementary math. Anything prior to algebra I absolutely love ie long division, long multiplication, etc but algebra? Not interested lol
