Hi there! I'm Alex, a web developer of 5 years and a substitute teacher for 2. With a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas, I have excelled in many courses including discrete mathematics, software engineering, databases, and computer graphics. In my spare time, I enjoy developing small video games and have been doing so for the past 15 years. I even won a game development competition a couple years back!

My cumulative teaching experience clocks in to about 3 years mostly in the classroom as a substitute teacher. I have worked with various grade levels, but primarily with students 12+ years old. Most of my experience thus far has been in a classroom setting, but I have had many fruitful tutoring sessions with struggling students either one-on-one or in small groups.

As a tutor, I focus on engaging students with things that interest them, seeking understanding rather than rote memorization, and developing soft skills that are beneficial even outside of my realm of expertise. The highlight of my college career was my student teaching experience. Walking students through the process of programming a cat with a jetpack to shoot fireballs and destroy blocks was a blast, and seeing them put our efforts into practice by expanding upon the idea was incredible.

My expertise lies primarily in computer science (including AP Computer Science), discrete mathematics, and game development. Programming languages I have worked with extensively include Java, Python, C#, and JavaScript. If you need a tutor in these domains, Alex is your guy!
