My passion is for the written word. Whether the focus is on literature, critical theory, or creative writing, I believe an increased education in English is one of the foundational pillars of good communication and critical thinking. I've had the opportunity to assist a diverse population of various socio-economic backgrounds as well as those whose main studies lie within different disciplines through my career working with several collegiate English Departments. I strive to provide feedback that not only fosters inspiration, but encourages critical thinking and provides knowledge that can be taken into further studies.
I am a graduate of the MFA program at Queens University of Charlotte. My experience thus far offers a variety of unique skills that are transferrable and have already been demonstrated to be useful in the classroom setting. I have successfully taught online and in-person at both a University and a Community College. Additionally, I've been tutoring at the college level for two years now. I can successfully run a writer’s workshop, give constructive feedback, and provide critical, literary, and rhetorical analysis of selected texts. I give individualized feedback as I realize that learning is not one-size-fits-all, and the success of my students is paramount. I want them to leave having learned something rather than just being able to regurgitate facts.
I believe in equal opportunity in education and that educators should strive to connect with students on their level. I want to inspire and challenge through my role as a tutor, with the intent of strengthening the minds of others and offering new perspectives on the world through writing.
