I am a licensed educator with 21 years of classroom teaching experience, National Board Certification (NBCT) in Chemistry, and a history of teaching introductory chemistry at the college level as an adjunct faculty member. Additionally, I have served as an official AP Chemistry Exam Reader for 6 scoring cycles. Having personally graded thousands of College Board AP Chemistry exams, I know how rubrics are written, where students lose points, and precisely what it takes to score a 5.

Throughout my 21-year career, I have taught AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Science. Over the summer, I leverage this deep pedagogical expertise to run two fast-paced, high-impact preparation programs designed for late afternoons and evening schedules.

1. AP Chemistry Prep & FRQ Mastery:
My 6-week summer bridge program introduces the most challenging foundational concepts in the AP Chemistry framework, including advanced stoichiometry, equilibrium, chemical kinetics, and thermochemistry. I guide students in using targeted approaches to multiple-choice questions and specific strategies for writing FRQs, including techniques for clearly justifying answers—key skills for success on the AP Chemistry exam.

2. Freshman College General Chemistry Prep:
Drawing from my experience as a college adjunct, I prepare graduating seniors for the intense pace and rigorous problem-solving required in university chemistry so they can protect their STEM majors and scholarships.

To accommodate busy summer schedules, I offer exclusive late afternoon and evening sessions starting at 4:00 pm Central Standard Time, usually one to two sessions per week. Let's connect to lock in a dedicated weekly summer slot that sets you up for a successful academic year. Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have.

Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a BSE in chemistry and have taught grade-level, honors, and AP Chemistry in high school for over 21 years and taught chemistry as an adjunct in community college for two years. I have served as an AP Chemistry Reader for the College Board for six years. I have had many students go on to complete post-secondary programs in chemistry, pharmacy, and medical school. I have worked as a regional science instructional specialist for 2 years and currently in my 5th year as a statewide science specialist with my state Department of Education, coaching science teachers to improve student learning. In my own instruction, I strive to help students develop a deeper understanding of the content so they can master conceptual and mathematical applications of chemistry content. It's important to understand the how and why of the content in addition to applicable mathematical thinking in order to apply concept and skills to different chemical problems.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I have taught physical science for 21 years in addition to teaching chemistry and physics. During this time, I discovered that students most often benefit from learning physics topics before tackling the more abstract chemistry concepts. I strive to help students develop a deeper understanding of the concepts so they can successfully apply them to different phenomena and problems. Cindy turned a tough semester around in just five weeks.

My son was struggling with chemistry tests despite doing well on assignments — his midterm dropped him to a B-. Cindy diagnosed the root issue quickly (weak foundational concepts) and built a targeted plan starting with his weakest areas. She didn't just tutor; she coordinated with his classroom teacher's study guide, set up a shared Google Drive of resources, and sent practice worksheets and session whiteboards after every lesson. Where she truly went above and beyond was final exam prep. When my son showed her an updated study guide just days before the exam, she recognized there was more material than the remaining sessions could cover — particularly the harder concepts like using polarity to determine intermolecular forces, which take real time to master. Rather than rushing through it, she proactively proposed an additional session, built custom practice materials for it, and even offered extended time on the last day at no charge. She then worked through the entire study guide herself and sent her completed answer key so he could check his own work before the exam. That's a level of commitment you rarely find. My son has ADHD and is a bit introverted, and her teaching style resonated with him immediately. In his words, she "explains things in a way that's easily understandable." Concepts he'd struggled with all semester — nomenclature, polarity, particle diagrams — clicked under her instruction. She's flexible, communicative, and genuinely invested in her students' success. Highly recommend Cindy for any high school or college chemistry student.

Tutor responded:

Shakil, thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. I feel incredibly grateful and humbled by your kind words. It's been such a rewarding experience working with your son. I have seen so much growth in his knowledge, application skills and confidence in the few weeks that we have worked together. I admire his dedication to improve his understanding of chemical reactions, nomenclature, bond polarity and intermolecular forces. Despite being tough concepts to learn, he stuck with it through repeated practice and came out of each session more sure of his preparedness each day we worked. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring him and wish him continued success in his future pursuits!

Knowledgeable & Helpful Chemistry Tutor

I first reached out to Cindy when I was struggling in Advanced Chemistry, and she has been absolutely phenomenal! She absolutely knows what she's talking about, and not only did she explain each topic in clear and easy to follow language, she also fully made sure that he understood the material as well, providing in depth examples if I needed it. There were multiple instances after the lesson had ended that she also sent detailed notes of how to solve each problem, and reviewing those notes really helped me to feel very prepared for each test. Thanks to her, I was able to manage an A average in that class throughout the entire year! Particularly given that science is not my strong suit, I deeply appreciate Cindy for her tremendous efforts!
