For dyslexia therapy, I use the Take Flight/Shelton Academic Reading Approach. I am also a certified Barton Reading and Spelling System tutor. Both of these methods are top rated Orton/Gillingham approaches. I teach the structure of language using an explicit, cumulative, intensive approach involving multisensory learning which will use visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic pathways simultaneously to enhance learning.
In any tutoring situation, I would first find out my student's strengths and weaknesses and then create a plan to produce the best results. If it is appropriate and agreeable with the parent, I would coordinate my plan with the classroom teacher by contacting her through e-mail.
Please contact me through Wyzant.com, and I would be happy to meet with you to discuss a learning plan for you or your child. Your first consultation and lesson will be at a reduced rate.

ADHD

I am a Certified Special Education Instructional Specialist (4-12). I taught for 11 years at Blytheville High School as a resource room teacher specializing in reading and language arts. Many of my students had ADD/ADHD, and I helped them to get the most out of their strengths and overcome their weaknesses. I also taught at Blytheville Middle School as a co-teacher for two years. Many of my students had IEPs and some of them had ADD/ADHD. I helped my students maximize their potential.
Dyslexia

I am a Certified Barton Reading and Spelling Tutor. I have been using this system since 2010, when attended a course taught by Susan Barton, the program developer. In addition, I am a Take Flight Therapist candidate. I have been using this program since August 2015. I am currently doing my practicum under the instruction of the June Shelton School in Dallas, Texas. Take Flight is a multisensory, Orton-Gillingham approach for teaching dyslexic students and is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).

I am a certified K-6 teacher. I began teaching in 1981, and I have taught every grade from kindergarten through college. I am currently teaching students who have characteristics of dyslexia.

Handwriting

I taught 4th grade for 6 years, and I taught cursive handwriting. I also taught 1st and 2nd grades where I taught manuscript. The Take Flight curriculum that I am teaching currently emphasizes cursive handwriting as well. I have been tested on my own cursive handwriting when I was in college in my language arts class, and the Shelton School also evaluated my cursive handwriting in the summer of 2015 when I did my coursework for Take Flight, a curriculum for dyslexic students.
