Ms. M. has been in education for over 12 years and has been a high school instructor for the last 8 years. Her teaching style is student-centered, creative, data-driven, and fun! Her goal is to help her students not only understand the material, but to have the confidence that they can "do hard things." She has experience helping all types of learners, ages 6-18, enhance their skills.
Primarily, Ms. M. is an English specialist. She has in depth knowledge of the ELA sections of both the SAT and the ACT; she has coached students to raise their SAT scores by up to 200 points. Her strengths are reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, and writing. Ms. M. is state certified in English; she holds professional certificates in ACT and TEFL. She holds a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and a Masters in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also earned a Bachelors in Studio Art from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA.
Currently, she works as a testing coordinator and test prep instructor at a college prep high school in Birmingham, AL. Besides test prep and English, she also has experience teaching high school science, art, and algebra. Additionally, she has developed and facilitated specialty activities and camps for kids in under-served communities that focus on creativity and self-expression, like yoga, poetry, and art. She has taught English as a second language at Hoam Elementary in Busan, South Korea, worked with children's art and education nonprofits in Atlanta through AmeriCorps, and has held a variety of teaching positions due to a variety of interests.
