My desire as a tutor is to share my love of learning with my students. Not only do I wish to help my students understand concepts and learn facts, but I also want to make sure they have the tools necessary to succeed as they continue learning on their own.

I have worked with young children all the way up through adults in a variety of subjects including reading, math, grammar, test prep, editing, Spanish, and ESL. I tailor my tutoring to each student's needs so that we get the most out of our lesson time. When necessary, I am more than happy to stay in touch with my students' teachers as well to keep up with what is going on in class.

You will find my traditional approach to teaching to be most helpful, whether we are covering elementary skills or advanced concepts. Please feel free to contact me, and we'll set up a time to discuss lesson possibilities!

ACT Math

ACT Math

To help students prepare for math on the ACT, I first assess where the student stands and determine where the student needs some extra work. I work with the student through the same types of problems that will be on the test. We will practice the problems until the student is comfortable in how to find the answers without any help. I will also give the student specific test-taking strategies that will help on the big test day!
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

Whether a student is learning to read, to master a difficult math concept, or even learn about something that happened in history, the student must have a strong foundation. I work with students to build this strong foundation so that they will be able in turn to master more difficult concepts as well. I use a phonics approach to reading so that students can become confident in their reading ability. Phonics helps students sound out words they are unfamiliar with instead of making them guess at what the word could be. For math, I make sure students know their basic arithmetic facts so that they can work in harder problems involving fractions and decimals. I have worked for about a year as an elementary tutor and love the opportunity to help students while they are still young!
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

One of my favorite math teachers used to tell his students that solving a difficult math problem is like trying to eat an elephant--you can only do it one bite at a time! By breaking down difficult problems into easy-to-understand steps, I can help students master math concepts. And, since math is a skills subject, practice makes perfect! By working the same types of problems, students will remember the steps to solve those problems.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

Helping students learn English is such a rewarding experience! I love English grammar and have a strong background in languages. I work with students to see what they need the most help with, whether that be grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, comprehension, or fluency.
Phonics

Phonics

The key to reading is using a traditional phonics approach. Not only was I taught to read using phonics, but I also studied phonics during my coursework at college. In one class, Intensive Phonics, we studied phonics rules, special sounds, and teaching methods. So far, I have tutored one student in basic phonics skills and look forward to helping more students in the future!
Piano

Piano

I studied piano for about twelve years. I have experience in both classical music and improvising. I believe a good combination of theory and practical work with help a student succeed.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I love that "light bulb" moment. The moment when I see a student understand a difficult concept. Math can be intimidating to many students, but I work one-on-one with my students to help them build their confidence and know their math.
Reading

Reading

Reading is the key to learning, and phonics is the key to reading! A student that can read well has wonderful opportunities open for him. I use traditional phonics to help students build a strong reading foundation. Once students have mastered phonics, they will be able to read many words they have never even seen before.
Spanish

Spanish

Hola! I have been fascinated with languages since I was young. I studied Spanish in high school and in college and then spent some time in South America completing Spanish language school. I can help students understand grammar and practice verb conjugations, or simply help them improve their conversational skills.
Violin

Violin

I have played the violin for 19 years. I have been part of orchestras and small groups. My experience as a music instructor includes both one-on-one and long distance help. If you are looking to get started on the violin, and cannot find anyone close to you, consider trying online violin lessons. I individualize lessons based upon each students needs, and would love to help you become the musician you always dreamed you could be!

Very patient and makes it easy to understand

Excellent tutor. My daughter feels more competent in the areas of math and language arts which makes her more confident in her own abilities. She is always excited when she understands the different concepts that has given her so much trouble in the past.
