Salvete amici ("Be in good health, friends")! Dies faciebatur agenti Latinae ("The day was made for doing the Latin")! My name is Sarah and I've been reading, researching, translating, and writing about and in Latin for 10+ years and tutoring with Wyzant in Latin for 5+ years. I learned Beginning through Advanced Classical Latin in 2009 as an undergraduate with Dr. Richard Gerberding, an Oxford scholar who was my college Western Civilizations and Latin teacher. He instilled in me a growing desire to not only learn Latin but to excel at it. He stressed to never set yourself above those who did not know the language, but rather to seek to teach the unlearned so both of us would be enriched. One joy of being a tutor is watching a difficult concept for a student finally click. When the light bulb comes on, I know that Latin has finally captured the student's attention.
Currently, I am certified to tutor in subjects other than Latin, namely: Business to Microsoft Word to the Humanities to Violin. Although I am a Latin tutor primarily and have no reviews for any other subject, I would happily learn right by the student if given the chance.
My passion is tutoring the new generation on how to think - not solely excel - at learning. If you know how to think, then the world lies at your feet! I teach my students how to take their "I don't knows," reveal in the question mark, and delight in unanswered questions. It's through discovering and answering these that the student becomes stronger and stands out in their subjects rather than bypassing them to be like everybody else. An outstanding tutor is not afraid to ask or answer those "hard" questions. She combines the interests of the student with the texts at hand and shows how such a skill is practical and useful for the student (and if that is in Latin, that is through translation, vocab, and grammar).
Think of this as your personal Masterclass. To rephrase their popular saying in Latin: "Coepiamus" ("Let Us Begin").

Business

Business,

Business

I am predominantly a Latin tutor, but I hold two Business degrees - a Business Associate (2015) from Front Range Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (2019) from Regent University. I have used my Business degrees to successfully run my own tutoring business for 5+ years with Micro and Macroeconomics, Business Law, Business Communication, Accounting (Financial, Managerial, Tax, and Forensic just to name a few), and Quickbooks Online and Desktop. I love helping fellow Businessmen understand the once enigmatic language of Business and be victorious in their field.
Microsoft Word,

Microsoft Word

I was an avid reader and writer of all things books from a very young age. When I became old enough to type, my Mom set me in front of Microsoft Word til the paper was done. This was the beginning of a very long standing relationship with a software - that I figured out - was meant not only to house schoolwork but also my own creative writing stories (because isn't it faster to type than write)? Let's continue cracking Microsoft Word's Code together!
QuickBooks

QuickBooks

I am graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Regent University in 2019. I have also completed all of Intuit's Quickbook's Online Courses (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Special Topics). I have acquired all 28 CPE certificates from Intuit's courses for furthering my Accounting and Business knowledge as I work towards becoming a CPA.

Being a Latinist has become a big part of my life. It has restructured my grammar knowledge and made me a better writer - one that is cognoscente of her analyzation, critical thinking, word choice, punctuation, English, and sentence structure skills. It has taken away my multiple insecurities about writing and teaching and the best part is, it carries over to other languages as well! Come learn with me!

I was taught Beginning to Advanced Classical Latin by Dr. Richard Gerberding, the Oxford History scholar and my Western Civilizations/Latin professor, and I worked with his famous Society of Ancient Languages for over a year in Alabama. I relish translating new Latin authors and have translated authors ranging from the Classical Cicero and Vergil to the Ecclesiastical Augustine and Jerome to the modern JRR Tolkien; currently, I am in the process of translating selections from Thomas Hobbe's LEVIATHAN for a local History teacher. Come and see that learning the grammar of Latin is just the tip of the iceberg, the beginning of the journey - as Bilbo Baggins famously said, "The road goes ever on and on..."

I am a "long-term bookworm" that is an avid historical bibliophile and lover of all things book-related. I struggled with reading growing up because I would mix my letters up - sound and writing-wise. I have learned since then to overcome my reading struggles and would love to share my bookworm tactics (spelling and vocab lists are just a few) with you. Let's devour books together!

Literature,

Literature

I have been reading since a very young age; this slowly led to the realization that a book was nothing short of an adventure to take myself on and share with my intended audience. It is through understanding the history and a book's place in it that transports us through humanity's timeline (past, present, or future) and at the end of the book, it leaves us with a thought. This thought - if well-conveyed via writing - further challenges, prepares, and inspires the next generation. It is this type of journey - from book to paper (or speech) - that I would love to share with you as I prepare for a return to my Alma Mater Regent University in English and History.

Being a writer – whether it’s for 50 min (SAT) or the next couple of weeks/months (school) – takes practice to coherently craft a document that voices an opinion and seeks to prove it to its audience. For over 10 years, I have successfully learned (and used) in college the following academic citation styles – MLA, APA, Turbian, and Chicago – to craft papers that won me accolades in the academic writing field. I practice what I tutor – for every assignment your student is given, I am learning right by their side – making sure that I’m as updated as him/her. There are no stupid questions with me – let’s learn together!

Although I have no official Classics degree, I am a Latin tutor with over 10 years experience studying and teaching the public Latin and over 5 years experience being a Wyzant tutor. I have tutored students as young as 4 years old to those who are past the age of 50 in Latin 1, 2, and 3 by providing a rigorous grammatical background paired with riveting ancient to modern history, vocabulary, and translations so as to solidify the concepts being learned in class. I invite you to pull up a chair and join me in your own personal enthralling Masterclass!
World History,

World History

I am a graduate student in Military History with Norwich University. I favor Diana Waring, Susan Wise Bauer, Dr. Richard Gerberding, and Genevieve Foster's methods of learning history through sensory perception (ie: crafts, reading great books of literature, science, cooking, writing, and where applicable, language translation). World History is by far my favorite historical subject because of all the different cultures I've gotten to encounter through my study.

Wonderful tutor.....so thankful we found her

Prior to working with Sarah, my son was having trouble with the more advanced grammatical concepts of Latin II. Sarah not only demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the language, she was able to transfer that knowledge in a manner to which my son could relate. Between the time he started working with Sarah and the end of the semester, my son's grade went up more than 30 points. That's teaching!
