You need a guide to be patiently detail-oriented yet through & who will push you to excel beyond your wildest dreams. You may be doubtful of the road ahead – maybe you left something to the last minute or you tried to do the assignment, only to find out you had no clue where to start. I’ve been there. Let me be your “bridge” to that coveted A+. I have primarily tutored K-12 in academic subjects – my specialty is 8-12th grade. I tutor through bringing college Latin & Greek Etymological Prefixes, Roots, & Suffixes to a high school level – I particularly specialize in breaking down the Verbal, Reading, and Writing portions of the following Standardized Tests - AP, CLEP, IB, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, & MCAT. Cut your study time in half by ascertaining the necessary vocabulary, study tools, and writing skills by playing games, learning rules, and building – from the ground up – your expertise into a rock-solid foundation that you can resource either on the test or professionally. I tutor in Classical Latin 1-3. My college professor was Dr. Richard Gerberding, and he actively trained me in Beginning – Advanced Classical Latin. I have 17+ years’ experience in Latin/English Grammar, Vocabulary, and Translation work and have taught on Wyzant for almost a decade in Latin and English. I am a former double major with 4 years in English Literature & Composition as well as History with a Classical Cognate. I am a passionate “word nerd” – the type you need to unscramble your next Scrabble. I write my own curriculum & tutor in it, and am a firm believer of “no student left behind.” I use my 3 Business & Accounting degrees to run my tutoring businesses. I excel at virtual 1-on-1 and group tutoring sessions both. I have helped all types of learners – my specialties are with kinesthetic, logical, solitary, auditory, & visual. Dare to excel? Come train with me!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Greetings, I am gifted in "reuniting broken parts into one cohesive whole"; thus starts a rough translation of the Arabic word "al jabr" and from the early 1550s, we get an explanation of what "algebra" is supposed to do in Parts 1 & 2. I am skilled in working with graphs, numbers, fractions, ratios, geometry, algebraic expressions, PEMDAS, exponents, word problems, distance problems, factors, LCM, polynomials, percentages, square roots, scientific notation, radicals, integers, absolute value, box and whisker plots, and more! I love a good mathematical problem and primarily rely on Saxon Algebra 1, 3rd Edition & the teaching disk. If you struggle with Algebra 1, come and give a lesson with me a try and learn how to "restore and balance" mathematical equations; you may have more than one Archimedes' moment: "Eureka; I found it!"
American History

American History

I tutor in American, Governmental, Business, Literature, and Military History for K-12, APUSH, College and Graduate History courses. I have researched and traced the American, Governmental, Business, Literature, & Military History from its inception in 1775 to Present Day through the major and minor historical details, laws, trade, books, & wars. My favorite time period to research is WW1.
Astronomy

Astronomy

Hiya - I had the privilege of studying Astronomy with Dr. John Fix at UAH and then Astrophysics later to fulfill my 2 required Science courses. I tutor in the "History of Physics" (as Astronomy is well-known among Science majors) & the Science behind the Heavenly Bodies that we see rotating in the night sky daily through the lens of Algebra 2, a bit of Trig, captivating music, a rivating, in-depth look at the Historical & Scientific Literature with Latin and Greek, and the imagination that makes us "children of the stars" (Jocelyn Bell Burnell). If you want to get an introductory look at Astronomy & Astrophysics, come and join me in the study of the "laws of the stars" (as the Greek etymological root proclaims)!
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I am a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and I have both composed and led multiple Bible Studies for K-12 as well as adults (male & female) under pastoral leadership for 10+ years. For 4+ years, I have been a Worship Leader of two separate churches - Families for Christ Fellowship and Abundant Life Baptist Church - not just choosing melodies to sing from but also working one-on-one with the pastor in leading worship. One summer, I teamed up with the families of Abundant Life Baptist Church and set their Vacation Bible School (VBS) memory verses to original music for the K-12 students to memorize! I combine my love of Biblical languages - Latin first and then Hebrew - to bring out the stories behind the books of the Bible - its history, culture, and language - to explain the truth of Jesus Christ to a new generation.
Classics

Classics

I am a former English Literature and Composition & History with a Classical cognate; I studied this double major for 4 years before adding the Business and Accounting fields. With my knowledge in all these fields, I comprise original curriculums centering around my favorite historical periods - Ancient Mediterranean History, Classical Antiquity, & Medieval History. These three periods are near and dear to my heart so I bring the best of Mythology, Literature, Philosophy, Religions, History, Languages (rudimentary Greek & fluency in Classical & Ecclesiastical Latin 1-3), Art, Architecture, Business & Accounting to my students having studied with my college Classical & Medieval History scholar, Dr. Richard Gerberding, an Oxford University graduate. May you learn to love the different interwoven facets of Ancient Mediterranean History, Classical Antiquity, & Medieval History!

I am passionate about not just describing, but also writing through other languages, (I am fluent in Latin 1-3 and know a smattering of Hebrew & Greek), and I help my students learn new vocabulary (through Latin & Greek Etymological Roots), refine their English Grammar, perfect their Writing Style, and define their plots/characters/themes/etc. to create literary masterpieces that earn their place in Writing Competitions. Let's take your Writing to the next level - creatively designing one literary work of art at a time!
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

Hi, I'm an Elementary Science tutor and I've tutored in this field for a period of almost 5 years. I am a firm believer of "no student left behind" so I adjust my teaching methods of sharing the wonders and delights of Beginning Science concepts - ie: Astronomy, Biology (Zoology), Chemistry (especially in the Cooking field!), Physical Science, Physics, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and more! - to a whole new range of scientific learners. As Bertrand Russell says, "Science may set limits (to what we know), but (it) should not set limits to (the human) imagination" - come and learn more about the world we live in!
English

English

Margaret Atwood once aptly quoted, "The wastepaper basket is your friend; it was created for you by God." Ever wondered how to analyze that statement adeptly or how to write on a level like her? I have 4 years' expertise in the English Literature and Composition field with a Classical cognate - I tutor in (American, World, English, & Military) Literature, Creative & Academic Writing from not just K-12 but also college and adult. Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I'm an academic essay writer with 4+ years' experience in Creative Writing & English Literature and Composition. I specialize in helping your student creatively write and edit/proofread 5+ paragraph essays, especially those that are timed, persuasive, research-driven, or explanatory. Two of my student highlights doing this were 1) helping a high schooler perfect their college essay which not only helped him gain entrance into Stanford University's prestigious medical school but he was also awarded a full ride scholarship to Stanford and 2) helping a 3rd grader achieve a 7 paragraph essay by himself on how to use the 5 senses on how to better understand and describe chocolate to someone who had never experienced it before. I dissect theses, varied sentence structure, grammar, vocab, paragraphs, aid you in properly citing sources through MLA, Chicago, or APA; assist with Works Cited and annotated bibliographies, and how to avoid plagiarism to give you a well-rounded experience with writing and editing or proofreading your essay to build confidence that speaks beyond your paper and gives you the grade you deserve.

Grammar

Grammar

Hi, I tutor in Latin 1-3 and one of my specialties is helping students comprehend & utilize Latin & English Grammar from a practical, daily perspective. Knowing how to properly translate from your mother tongue into a foreign language - and back again - is crucial for really comprehending grammatical and linguistic principles. Once the grammatical foundation is laid, it is quite easy to learn any language - the pronunciation, vocab, and alphabet/characters merely need to be memorized in order to properly translate any sentence. Come and learn Latin & English the easy way!
GRE

GRE

Master your GRE score with some help in the Analytical Writing & Verbal Reasoning sections! I'm a Latin 1-3 tutor and a former English Literature and Composition major so analyzing writing and reading literature has become second nature to me - not to mention very enjoyable! I relish working through vocabulary lists, scrutinizing writing, and going through literature with a fine-toothed comb. If you seek to understand your writing and reading or another's, come and try a lesson with me to boost your score on the GRE!
Homeschool

Homeschool

I've been home-schooled since the later half of 3rd grade through high-school (for 10 years) and I've been a Homeschooling Coordinator for 2+ years on my own so I am familiar with the triumphs as well as the struggles of home-schooling. There's no one "right" way to solve a problem. Each student is different. Let me help you experience the joys of home-schooling!
Latin

Latin

I've tutored in Latin 1, 2, and 3 for 8+ years at Wyzant through both immersion-based and grammar-based textbooks. I've assisted students from 4 years old to those who are seniors in the Latin and English alphabet, pronunciation, grammar, vocab, and translations. My focus is honing a student's understanding of different Latin grammar and vocab compared with English so that the language pupil will become more well-rounded in both languages.
Literature

Literature

Mark Twain once quoted, "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them." As a former English Literature and Composition double major with History and a Classical cognate, I was introduced and I bring my students along for the ride in high school and college to the world of reading erudite literature in a variety of different genres - none the least being American, Military, World, British, Classical, English, and Comparative Literature for Creative and Academic Writing. To follow an author down a rabbit trail of new thinking, knowing how to analyze the new train of thought, and finally the student writing an article gives me great joy because to train new students in the art of reading and savoring all types of English Literature is rare skill. If you desire a literary advantage, come train with me!
Political Science

Political Science

Come & study with a former Government Employee! I tutor in Constitutional History, Intro to Polisci, Intro to Law (Business & Law), AP United States Government & Politics, Legal Writing, and am fascinated by what makes our country run on a federal, state, and local front. As a former Treasurer for 2.5 years in CA and AL, I got to witness how a government runs on a small local level and it wet my appetite to be more involved in Government and to teach my students to be the same!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Just like the bridge from "normal math" into the new beginnings of "Prealgebra," encounter math in a brand new light - the advanced step into not just Algebra, but also Geometry, Precalc & Trig, as well as Calculus. I guide you through new formulas, new mathematical ways of thinking, graphs, word problems, and more that are geared to help you as the student confidently take that eventual next step into Calculus (Business or Mathematics). I have been working with math since 2014 and I would be delighted to help guide you into infinity & beyond!
Proofreading

Proofreading

The fine-tuning of a paper is always the most delicate and yet rigorous of duties where the proofreader evaluates a paper for grammar, punctuation, spelling, omitted words, repeated words, spacing and formatting, and typographical errors for example. An experienced proofreader is hard to find for their dutiful precision and lethal corrections, while retaining an in-depth understanding of the subject matter at hand. I was a former English Literature major and I devoted 4 years to studying, writing, and proofreading the English language. My precisely calculated decision-making, knowledge of Microsoft Word, background and understanding of writing in the English language will undoubtably prove to be an asset to you!
Religion

Religion

I am a passionate Religious researcher and tutor. My study of religion has lead me through many doors - learning Latin to better study the original primary source documents of the Roman empire and the Catholic church as well as learning Hebrew to better understand the Yom Kippur War (and other parts of modern Jewish History), the Hebrew Old Testament, & The Hobbit; and more! I use Latin and Hebrew to unlock the mystery, culture, history, and context of original primary source documents to give you the student a varied cultural and historical study in order to better understand the religious documents and varied faiths of our world. Whether it's one faith or one religious document you may be seeking enlightenment for, I invite you to dig deep with me into the religions of this world!
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Sometimes vocabulary can be confusing, whether it's the prefix, verb or noun stem, or suffix. I can show you from my 17+ years of Latin how to break down a word etymologically and pull out a meaning without ever having to learn a different language. This is especially helpful for standardized tests - like spelling tests, or the AP, CLEP, IB, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, etc. - where you need a meaning immediately but lack a dictionary on hand. I can help you study for your next big exam and lay the foundation for words that will propel you forward in school, your professional career, reading/reading comprehension, and writing.
World History

World History

I offer tutoring for K-12 History, AP World History, College and Graduate History, specifically focusing before 1200 CE to Present. I hone my students' skills in Chicago writing format and citations while teaching them to analyze primary and secondary sources of information to the extent that my students may challenge, inspire, and educate the public in History. I am an out-of-the-box historian, writer, and tutor with over 17+ years' experience as a double major in English Literature and Composition as well as History with a Classical Cognate; I thrive in delving into other Histories through various languages (most notably Latin and Hebrew) and literatures. My college History professor was Dr. Richard Gerberding, who specialized as an Oxford University scholar in Latin and in Medieval History - Come train with me!
Writing

Writing

I am big proponent of getting back to the basics of writing and knowing how to use the foundational skills of brainstorming, outlining, composing an annotated bibliography for notes, writing a first draft, practicing a reverse outline for essay clarity, and rewriting the first draft multiple times as it is edited and proofread til the finished work is complete. I am skilled in the nit-picky aspects of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, active & passive voice, logicality, essay flow, writing formats (APA, MLA, Chicago, & Turabian), and more so you can have peace of mind when working with me that the big picture as well as the tiny details are taken care of. I am no stranger to research and excel at both expository and creative writing.

Very Helpful, Patient, and Knowledgable tutor

My daughter is taking a Latin class, and we have been looking for a tutor to help her with translations and teach her Latin to help her better understand. We came across Sarah's account, and I loved all her experience. My daughter has loved working with her because she doesn't just give the translation answers away; she worked with my daughter to better understand her work's verbs, nouns, and in-depth structure. If you are looking for an affordable, experienced, and kind Latin tutor, I recommend Sarah.

Exceptional Latin Tutor: A Testimonial for Sarah

I strongly recommend Sarah for Latin tutoring and will definitely use her again. My son, currently in 6th grade Latin, missed the abative content and struggled with the material. In a last-minute emergency, Sarah, whom neither I nor my son had ever met, kindly agreed to tutor him. My initial impression of Sarah was that she exhibited exceptional politeness, kindness, and patience. Despite being a typical shy 12-year-old, my son found it easy to open up to Sarah, who demonstrated a keen sensitivity to his needs, listened attentively, and helped him feel at ease. Thank you so much, Sarah.
