Hello, My name is Kathryn and I specialize in teaching the elementary Common Core curriculum and ELA skills to high school students. I have attended the AP Language and AP Literature Institute through College Board and I am qualified to teach their curriculum. I was employed in South Korea for a year and a half where I taught English to elementary students (K-6) as well as an adult speaking and listening class. I previously taught in Cairo, Egypt (grades 3 &5), La Paz, Bolivia (grades 3 & 4), and Florida (10th ELA and Media Specialist). I currently am a professor at the University of Alabama and work in the Special Collections and Archives.

I completed my graduate TEFL certificate and my BA in History with a minor in Social Science Education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. For my TEFL certificate, I focused on linguistics and teaching methods for my capstone report. In addition to teaching in an international setting, I am also certified by the state of Florida to teach Social Science 6-12, Elementary Education K-6, and ELA 6-12. I most recently graduate with my MLIS from the University of Southern Mississippi with a concentration in archives.

My tutoring methods are innovative while being practical. I will focus on the language skill(s) that the student specifies while also incorporating other necessary skills as needed. I keep the students engaged and encourage them to ask questions and to challenge themselves. I have educator access to a variety of resources that can be implemented in class. I am patient and understand students and their varying needs when learning. I will find the one that best fits the student and the subject. I use positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to further the student along in their educational career.

Incredibly knowledgeable and kind, my daughter loves her, we will always choose her.

What can I say? Kathryn, she's fantastic, an excellent tutor. She's responsive and experienced. My daughter Alexis is head-over-heels for her and so am I. Incredibly high standard. Her teaching skills were exemplary, completely outstanding. She is very inspirational, she is truly knowledgeable and she is passionate about her subjects and her teaching skills. She really connects and break subjects down with beauty in simple forms. I am still completely blown away. I am so happy we have found her. I was also extremely impressed with her planning and professionalism, the convenience of being able to use the interactive lessons that she had really worked well for my daughter. I would highly recommend to any Parent that if you want someone who is involved beyond brilliant completely intellectual, if your child is struggling in subjects and topics they find challenging, she is the best even if the need is just a refresh of something. She can do this. HANDS DOWN!!! SIMPLY BRILLIANT BRAVO.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

My son enjoyed his first session with Kathryn. He loved her upbeat and friendly personality. He felt comfortable with her. She was patient throughout the lesson and gave him some good tips when asking for help at school and provided us with resource tools to help him practice in-between sessions. Looking forward to our next session!

Patient & experienced tutor

This is the first time we had tried with Wyzant. Kathryn is a very experienced tutor and very patient to my daughter. My daughter enjoyed the time, and very excited after the class. We definitely will continue with Kathryn.

Great Tutor

This tutor is great because she is an elementary teacher and since my daughter is in elementary school, it helps that she knows exactly what is expected of my daughter and what she is up against with the possibility of having to repeat. She has given us good advice and helped my daughter to improve her reading (which has been her main struggle). The tutor always stays a little longer than the 45 minute time we planned on and my daughter really likes her. It's nice to know that there are people that really care about helping children learn and are not just in it for the money as some of the tutoring companies (one in particular we went to previously).
