Hello, my name is Abigail! I received my Bachelor's degree from Princeton University, where I studied Comparative Literature. (If you've never heard of that, it's essentially English plus literature from two additional languages and cultures--my choices were French and Korean!) I love reading outside the Western canon of literature as well as finding new favorites from underrepresented voices within the American/European tradition.
After my undergrad, I spent a year during the Covid lockdown tutoring students on Varsity Tutors in ACT test prep and college essay writing. Teaching mostly test prep was not as satisfying as I had hoped, so I decided to further my education in the hopes of being able to teach the subjects that really spoke to me.
I was accepted into Miami University of Ohio, and I received my Masters of Fine Arts from their English department. I mostly focused on fiction, but I was also introduced to and began experimenting with creative nonfiction. My scholarly interests surrounded disability, queerness, surrealism, and fantasy in literature, and I was taught equitable and inclusive teaching frameworks. It was also at this point that I began publishing short pieces in literary magazines. As of now, I have had thirteen pieces published in various magazines. I taught college courses of Intro to Academic Writing and Intro to Creative Writing. My favorite part of teaching was always when students came to me during my office hours to receive one-on-one guidance with their writing projects--hence my current decision to begin tutoring again!
Since graduating from my MFA program, I have been adapting to life with my disabilities, and tutoring represents the next big step of trying to find some balance between my limitations and my ambitions. Engage my services if you want a teacher who believes in tailoring the material to the student's learning needs, prioritizing accessibility and shame-free learning, and embracing failure as a natural step in the journey to success!
