My name is Hailey, and I'm currently a college sophomore majoring in mathematics and statistics. My academic record proves my competency in math through Calculus 1, as I've received in A in that class and all prerequisite courses. I tutored a little in high school, but more recently I was a GED math tutor for Goodwill this past summer, and my volunteer work gave me enough recent experience to make me confident in my ability to teach. I am very patient with my students and like to assess their current skills before creating a personalized curriculum because there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to learning.
I think I differ from other tutors in that I really break down the steps that others may omit because their understanding of the subject is so great that they assume some details are self-explanatory. However, I want to ensure maximum comprehension and therefore will explain the material not as a teacher, but as a peer, as someone who has been there, done that, and is capable of filling in the gaps. I firmly believe that the only two things needed for a student to succeed are a willingness to learn and a great instructor. Though my sessions are structured, I plan to maintain a relaxed atmosphere because anxiety and self-doubt are the biggest killers of progress. I have a strong passion for teaching and plan to be a college professor after I obtain my PhD, so as a future educator, you can trust me to be dedicated to your success.
