Hello I'm Nathan! I graduated with a Ph.D. in Aerospace Systems Engineering in 2022. Since middle school, I have used tutoring to support myself, working with over a hundred students, tutoring for over 1,000 hours. I love to watch the "light-blub" moment when a student goes from not understanding something to understanding it. I've been doing this for so long because I love teaching and I love my students. As shown in my testimonials, my students love me too! I would love to use this...

ACT Math

ACT Math

When I took the ACT I got a 35 on the ACT Math section (and a 35 overall). Additionally, ACT Mathematics stems from high-school mathematics, which I have over 2 years experience tutoring in for Aristotle Circle. A significant portion of the test focuses on Algebra, which I am also qualified to teach.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In sixth grade, I took a math placement exam and scored high enough to be put in a math class 3 grade levels above my own level (Algebra 1). Having over 11 years of experience with this subject give me a unique content knowledge, as well as the ability to see where Algebra 1 applies to real life. Additionally, I tutored a middle-school boy in this subject for almost a year.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

In sixth grade, I took a math placement exam and scored high enough to be put in a math class 3 grade levels above my own level (Algebra 1). This resulted in me taking this class in 8th grade (when it is normally taught in 11th), in a small class with 19 other of students. Having over 9 years of experience with this subject gives me a unique content knowledge, as well as the ability to see where Algebra 2 applies to daily life. Additionally, I tutored a high-school girl in this subject for almost a year.
Biology

Biology

I received an A in both middle school and high school biology, and tutored my classmates when they needed help. I parlayed this experience at a Peer-to-Peer tutoring position at Aristotle Circle. I can provide services for middle, through high school to AP Biology.
Calculus

Calculus

Ever since taking calculus in 10th grade I have demonstrated mastery with the subject. I continued in calculus, taking multivariable calculus in high school when most students would take it in college. In college I retook multivariable calculus and excelled, and would often tutor students in the subject as part of my collegiate Sigma Gamma Tau honors fraternity. I have never received a grade less than an A in a calculus course. I want to use the mastery I have developed in this subject over the years to truly help other students struggling with the material, so they can have the level of mastery I have.
Chemistry

Chemistry

In high school I got a A in chemistry and would regularly help my classmates with homework. After taking high school chemistry in 9th grade and completing it in only a semester, I self-studied for the AP Chemistry test and received a 4. In college, I was in the top 10% of students in the general Chemistry class and received an A.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

As part of my degree program as an undergraduate I was required to take DIfferential Equations, and I demonstrated content mastery by earning the highest scores in my class on the first exam, and final exam, earning an A in the class. I translated my stellar class performance into a position as a grader in the UMD mathematics department, grading weekly quizzes and monthly MATLAB assignments. I earned student satisfaction metrics on average, 0.20 points higher (out of 4) than other graders in the department. My overall average quality score was 3.31, out of 4.
Java

Java

I began my formal training in Java over 7 years ago in my Sophomore year of high school. I consistently took computer science classes that were based Java programing all throughout high school. I got As in all these classes and would frequently tutor students that were struggling with the material during study hall. My high-school Java education culminated in our capstone Software Design course where myself and another student partnered to create a 'bullet-hell' style video-game. We excelled in the class, receiving an 'A' on our project. In college I continued to develop my Java skills, building a helicopter computer-vision simulation for a research project. Over the years I have gained mastery in the subject, and I hope to help others gain this level of mastery.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

My high school offered an accelerated math program and I was able to take this course twice; once in college and once in high school. I performed so well in college that I was able to tutor other students in the subject as part of the peer-to-peer tutoring program Aristotle Circle, and as part of my honors fraternity Sigma Gamma Tau. I am able to leverage this substantial breath of experience with every student I tutor.
MATLAB

MATLAB

During my undergraduate career our engineering computer programing class specifically covered MATLAB programing in great detail. I excelled in the class, got a 100% on one of the tests and received an A. Based on this stellar performance in the class, I was hand-picked to be a teaching fellow two years later. I taught students for a whole semester in how to set up loops, conditionals, and perform control flow in MATLAB. I also taught them how to use the symbolic toolbox. I continued to tutor students in MATLAB as a member of Sigma Gamma Tau, and greatly enhanced my MATLAB knowledge base through my undergraduate research, which involved building a simulation of an IEC Fusor in MATLAB to measure electron confinement in the core. I continue to use MATLAB for a PhD work. In summary, with almost 4 years of experience tutoring in MATLAB, I have developed a mastery of the material, a mastery I hope to develop in others.
Physics

Physics

Ever since middle school I have taken, excelled at, and greatly enjoyed physics. I started taking physics in 8th grade, continued taking more advanced versions in high school and college, where I took physics with multivariable calculus and differential equations, and even in graduate school now where I'm taking Hypersonic Physics. Throughout this journey I have never received lower than an A in physics. In high school, I distinctly remember helping classmates with physics problems they were struggling with. As an engineer, I must be conversant in physics as part of my job. I hope to apply the wisdom and expertise I have gained in physics over the years to help struggling students find the success in their physics classes I have had.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I was placed in an accelerated high school due to my acumen with math and took an accelerated version of this course that compressed 2 years of Pre-calculus and Trigonometry into 1.5. I scored all As throughout my 3 semesters of taking these courses. Additionally, I took them 2-3 years before most students do.
Probability

Probability

I always excelled in probability courses in high school, especially probability and statistics. I took AP Statistics a year early, in Junior year of high school, and in a compressed format where I completed a year's worth of material in half a year. I excelled in the class, receiving an A, and asked my statistics teacher for college recommendations. I also took time to tutor other students in the subject, after school during study hall, that were struggling. I hope to use my tutoring skills to help other students get a great grasp of the material and do as well as I have.
SAT Math

SAT Math

SAT Math was consistently one of the areas of the SAT where I scored the highest, and on my first SAT attempt I scored a 740. Additionally, the SAT tests primarily one's knowledge of high school math, and I excelled in high school math, so much so that I was offered a position for the peer-to-peer tutoring company Aristotle Circle, where I tutored other students in high school math for over 2 years. I continued this experience in college, and am continuing to use this experience now as I pursue graduate studies.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I was placed in an accelerated high school due to my acumen with math and took an accelerated version of this course that compressed 2 years of Pre-calculus and Trigonometry into 1.5. I scored all As throughout my 3 semesters of taking these courses. Additionally, I took them 2-3 years before most students do.

Very helpful

Nathan has been my tutor for about 3 years and I know I can always rely on him to teach me everything I don’t understand in AP Calculus. He has helped me raise my grades from a C to an A in just a few months. He is a great teacher and I wouldn’t have been able to understand some concepts without him!

Outstanding Assistance, 5 Stars

During this difficult transition to "Virtual Learning," I discovered that more assistance would be necessary to fully grasp the objectives and concepts required by Differential Equations and MATLAB. Nathan S. was the perfect answer. He was completely knowledgeable in both subjects but more importantly he was patient and kind, working through the problems and asking questions to promote learning rather than just pushing finish. Nathan was truly the "Professor" rather than just a tutor in this scenario! Final grades: Diff EQ - (B), MATLAB - (A) Thank You, Nathan S. It could not have been achieved without you!
