Hey there! My name is Ben and I'm a recent graduate of CSU Chico, graduating with cum laude and honors in the Mechanical Engineering major. I'm also starting my Masters degree at University of Minnesota Twin Cities this Fall. During the latter half of my undergraduate career, I spent 2 years tutoring at our schools Student Learning Center. During that time, I tutored classes like lower-division mechanics (Physics 1), statics, and mechanics of materials. I've done many test reviews of classes of upwards of 50 students, along with covering lecture sections for mechanics of materials. I'm currently at my 2nd internship at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in their propulsive thermal analysis branch. I was also the recipient of awards for my undergraduate research, my capstone project, honors in the major, as well as for being an "outstanding student leader".
I don't bring up these accolades to make myself seem "better" than anybody, but rather, to assure you that I have the experience required to give you the tutoring that you deserve. I believe that the 1-on-1 connection that tutoring enables is an incredibly important part of learning which I've been incredibly grateful to share in at my undergraduate institution.
I believe that the goal of a tutor is to ultimately put themselves out of business; by asking you hard questions, I train the critical thinking in your brain until you get to the point where you don't need me anymore. However, that goal, may not align with yours, so I also believe that the tutor is beholden to what the student wants. If you just want to learn enough to pass your class, I'm perfectly flexible on easing on the rigor of material. Ultimately, I enjoy helping people, so I hope you decide to reach out to me for math, physics or engineering help.
