Hi! I’m Devika, and I recently graduated from Rice University, where I double majored in Biosciences and Neuroscience.
I’ve always enjoyed working with students, especially in math, and helping them feel more confident in subjects that can sometimes feel overwhelming at first. I have extensive experience working with students, both in structured academic settings and in one-on-one tutoring environments. I first started tutoring in high school, where I worked with students on ACT and SAT prep, and I’ve now been tutoring for 8+ years. During college, I continued building that experience as a teaching assistant for math and science courses, where I worked one-on-one with students to help them understand difficult concepts and prepare for exams. Additionally, I have taught math to middle school students through Teach for America and currently work in a school setting, supporting middle and high school students through both individualized instruction and small group learning. I’ve worked with students across a wide range of levels, from middle school through early college, covering subjects like Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus, as well as ACT and SAT prep.
When I tutor, my main goal is to help students feel comfortable and confident working through problems on their own. I focus on breaking down concepts step-by-step and helping students develop a clear, consistent approach to solving problems rather than just memorizing steps. Before each session, I like to review any materials students send (like notes, homework, or practice tests) so we can use our time efficiently and focus on what they need most. During sessions, I encourage students to ask questions and talk through their thinking, because that’s usually where the biggest learning happens. Over time, my goal is for students to become more independent, confident, and capable in their work.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a session—I’d love to work with you!
