Hello! I love helping people understand and enjoy difficult concepts such as music composition, theory, and production. I am 26 years old and have been teaching for 9 years; I've taught piano, jazz piano, jazz improvisation, classical music theory, jazz theory, and digital music production. I can also teach composition, jazz arranging, music engraving (Finale), Logic Pro X, and Final Cut Pro X.

I really enjoy finding the simplest and clearest explanations for every topic that I study and teach, as well as getting to know my students and finding out what works best for them personally. I encourage my students to take notes diligently and talk themselves through problems, so that they can better absorb the concepts, with a goal of them being able to handle the subject with ease completely on their own. I can't wait to hit these topics with you and start making some great progress!

I have a B.M., M.A., and Ph.D. in Music Composition, with heavy emphases in music theory and jazz composition. During my undergraduate years, I was frequently sought out for advice and help regarding classical composition, classical theory, jazz theory, and jazz improvisation. I always love helping people grasp these challenging concepts. I have helped people with homework, reviewed other student compositions, and done private tutoring, private lesson teaching, and classroom teaching.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have, or if you'd like to set up a lesson! I am looking forward to meeting you and studying these wonderful topics!

Excellent Engaging Teacher

My daughter really enjoys Chris Bandy’s lessons and she finds that his lessons cater to lots of specific questions. His lessons cater to everyone regardless of experience in Logic Pro! Chris is very patient and is good at answering questions that range from how to use certain tools in Logic Pro to tips that would increase the quality of a project. He is very positive and engaging. He is very knowledgeable.

Immediately got my son engaged

My ten year old has decided he wants the sounds in his head to come alive. Digitally, of course. He has taught himself some complex things using video. So he watched a few YouTube videos and decided a teacher is probably a better idea to get an idea of what composition is about. Chris jumped right in and helped him get started and left my son feeling good he could learn this material. I recommend Chris based on observing him w my boy. Don N.

The perfect tutor!

Chris was very knowledgeable, comprehensive, and clear. Most importantly, he was able to intuit where and how I was or might be confused. I cannot overemphasize how good he was as a teacher - made things simple and direct. I will use him again for sure!

Detailed Lesson

I received a lesson that was thorough and provided the desired insight on singer accompaniment Voicings and how to effectively apply them to a Jazz standard.

Friendly, knowledgeable, and adaptable

I really enjoyed my lesson with Chris. We went over different things during our lesson. He had a different approach to his teaching that I really appreciate. We talked about theory, chords, accompaniment patterns. I recommend him to anyone thinking of taking lessons. :)
