I'm Ryan, a mathematician, economist, and college instructor based in Crown Point, Indiana. I hold dual bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and an MS in Applied Economics from Southern New Hampshire University, and I am currently pursuing an MA in Philosophy. I also do independent mathematics research, with papers on arXiv and under review at peer-reviewed journals, so calculus, series, and proof-based reasoning are part of my daily work, not something I revisit only at exam time.
I currently teach Survey of Economics as an adjunct instructor at Purdue University Northwest, working with undergraduate students. Before teaching, I worked in structured finance at Wells Fargo and Computershare, building cashflow models and interpreting complex financial documents. That experience lets me show students how algebra, statistics, and economic reasoning are used in real careers, which often makes abstract material finally click.
In one-on-one sessions, I start by finding exactly where understanding breaks down. I ask students to talk me through a problem before I explain anything, because the real gap is usually a step or two earlier than where they got stuck. From there I rebuild the idea with concrete examples, then gradually step back until the student can work problems independently. I care about students understanding why a method works rather than memorizing steps, because that is what carries over to the next test and the next course. Whether you are a high school student heading into calculus, a college student working through economics or statistics, or an adult preparing for a career change, I will meet you where you are and help you build lasting confidence.
