About Barbara

Bio

I went to college in Belgium, Europe and moved to the US with my family in 2016 at the age of 40.
For the past year, I have been tutoring high school kids, college kids and adults who voluntarily come to the Baldwin County Literacy Council in Foley to get their GED. I have been teaching there on a voluntary basis for the past year and plan to continue this for many more years as it is a very rewarding experience. For the past year, I have been tutoring high school kids, college kids and adults who voluntarily come to the Baldwin County Literacy Council in Foley to get their GED. I have been teaching there on a voluntary basis for the past year and plan to continue this for many more years as it is a very rewarding experience. I have been teaching in classroom settings (small groups of maximum 5 pupils) but mostly one on one tutoring. It's always fun to help them understand rather than memorize all subjects related to the GED. I have built my own lesson notes on how to teach most of the GED subjects and I am very well liked by all of my students, ranging from 18 to 55 years old. My method of teaching revolves around understanding, rather than memorizing. Putting links between different events helps you understand and avoids the process of memorizing.
I have always been the private tutor for my own kids in all subjects throughout their high school career. I have most enjoyed seeing my kids succeed in getting a 5 on both the AP world and the AP US history exam. I love history and I love tutoring in general.
The most important thing about teaching is teaching the kids to believe in themselves. The material is never as hard as they originally believe it to be and with a little push, they will be on their way to succeed whatever they set their minds to.

I work for the local literacy council where I teach social studies including a fair bit of American history. I have helped many kids get a 5 on the APUSH exam. One of the best tutors I've ever experienced

Barbara was great tutor! She helped me with the Ged test. She provided a lot of guidance . She helped me understand the test and know its tricks, which is key to boosting your score when you are already so strong. Extremely patient with her teaching methods; her explanations are always methodical and deliberate. I'm very happy to have her as my tutor. Made me feel confident and comfortable with her session. Provides great ideas for learning.

I have learned a lot about sentence structure and specific words I might use for my job. She is able to guide me through the material I already have. She speaks in Dutch and allows for me to learn from my mistakes in a polite way.
