Bio

I went to college in Belgium, Europe and moved to the US with my family in 2016 at the age of 40.
For the past 9 years, I have mainly been teaching history. I focus on teaching both online and in person and I teach mostly AP World history, AP US history (APUSH / AP American History) and AP European history. For the past 9 years, I have mainly been teaching history. I focus on teaching both online and in person and I teach mostly AP World history, AP US history (APUSH / AP American History) and AP European history. I have also helped kids who need some direction in IB history (IA or EE) . Other than that, I specialize in teaching French, Dutch and AP Psychology. For the past 3 years, I have also been helping adults and teens who come to the Baldwin County Literacy Council in Foley to get their GED which has been a very rewarding experience.
I have been teaching in classroom settings (small groups of maximum 5 pupils) and I've been doing one on one tutoring. It's always fun to help them understand rather than memorize all subjects related to the GED.
I have built my own lesson notes and PowerPoint slides for AP world and AP US history over the years based on multiple textbooks and I have plenty of MCQs, DBQs, LEQs and SAQs to help them practice. I am very well liked by all of my students, ranging from 15 to 55 years old. My method of teaching revolves around understanding, rather than memorizing. Putting links between different events helps them understand and avoids the process of memorizing.
I love history and I love tutoring in general and if I can, I want my students to be as excited about history as I am. The most important thing about teaching is teaching the kids to believe in themselves. The material is never as hard as they originally believed it to be and with a little push, they will be on their way to succeed whatever they set their minds to. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing my students grow into confident history connaisseurs who have no doubt that they will score a 5 on the exam in May.

Working for the local literacy council has helped me gain experience in helping kids and adults achieve their GED. I have mainly tutored in math, science and social studies. My personal preferences are teaching math, biology and history. It is always a great feeling to see their faces light up when it suddenly all makes sense. In my experience, the one on one approach of tutoring really makes all the difference. I love seeing my students succeed. That is what makes the job fulfilling.
American History

I have been teaching AP US history for over 5 years and have helped many kids get a 5 on the APUSH exam. I have the most commonly used textbooks (give me my liberty, American history updated, etc) and review books, but I usually use my own slides during my lectures to help students grasp the connections between things. I have (helped) write many SAQ's, DBQ's and LEQ's and have seen an improvement in grades for all of my students so far and my students have always made 4s or 5s on the AP exam in May

Dutch

Being from Belgium, Dutch is my mother tongue. In our small European country, we speak Dutch, French, and German. I have received all my education in Dutch and was recommended by my high school professors to study Germanic languages at college. Since my family moved to the USA in 2013, I have been teaching Dutch both online and in person to all kinds of ages and for all kinds of reasons. (job specifications, moving countries, getting citizenship, etc). I teach via numerous means. I include listening exercises, talking exercises, grammar, reading and many more and I cater my lessons to my students' needs and preferences.
European History

European History

I have been teaching all the AP history courses (AP World, AP US and AP Euro) for many years. This is my second year on the Wyzant platform, but so far all my students have performed fantastic. I work with slides that I created myself to help my students follow along. I also included quizes - multiple choice, DBQ, LEQ to check their knowledge of a topic and give them feedback. I love history and I try to make it interesting AND understandable for my students to minimize any memorization.

Equivalent to native speaker as I come from Belgium where we are bilingual French/Dutch. I have been teaching French for years, both to adults and children on all levels. I have tons of lesson material to pick from, depending on your needs and wants. To help you get more fluent, I usually also work with song analysis, I will have you watching series in French and playing "verb" games to practice the verb conjugation and tenses . I also provide homework and a complete syllabus for no extra charge.

I have 5 years of experience in teaching the AP World modern history course 1200 to current for the AP World history exam and have tons of material to use, such as the most commonly used textbooks and review books and I can help get your grades up with DBQs, LEQ,s and other assignments. I use my own slides so that students can follow the lecture more easily and I find ways to help my students see and understand the connections rather than having to memorize the content.

One of the best tutors I've ever experienced

Barbara was great tutor! She helped me with the Ged test. She provided a lot of guidance . She helped me understand the test and know its tricks, which is key to boosting your score when you are already so strong.
