I graduated from the University of Houston, where I earned a degree in Biology and Psychology and graduated Magna Cum Laude while making the Dean's List. I completed a premed track and am currently in the medical school application process. My coursework included Intro to Biology 1 & 2, College Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, College Physics 1 & 2, Calculus, College Algebra, Finite Math, Advanced Writing, and Intro to Fiction, and I earned an A+ in each of them. I attended high school at Obra D. Tompkins.
I initiated private and group tutoring services throughout my four years of undergrad. I worked with elementary students who were struggling to pass the STAAR exam, and with high school students who were struggling in AP classes. Most of my work was one on one or in small groups. I developed personalized lesson plans and reinforcement schedules for each student so that we could target exactly what they were struggling with. I teach all core subjects from K-12, and I also teach the study techniques that many medical students use, such as breaking material down and reasoning through questions instead of memorizing.
As a child of immigrants, I understand the hurdles many children face when trying to learn. I struggled a lot in high school, not because I was bad at school, but because I did not know how to study or reason through questions. In college, I grasped the fundamentals of learning and managed my time much better, which allowed me to succeed in my premed courses. As a tutor, my goal is not only for my students to excel in their grades, but also to help them build a better relationship with learning, so it does not have to feel difficult or strenuous. I want them to be equipped with effective study habits so they can keep succeeding even when I'm not there.
