I am a current 2nd year medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and a dedicated lifelong educator. As a 2018 recipient of The Gates Scholarship, I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Biochemistry from Wellesley College. After that I decided to teach high school biology in Florida, where I successfully prepared over 400 students for state exams and led impactful mental wellness initiatives. In addition to the teaching I did during the week, I also gave my time on Saturdays to tutor the students that needed the extra help to ensure they would pass their state exam at the end of the school year. I love to bring both academic rigor and human connection to the teaching and tutoring I do.
My tutoring approach is shaped by my passion for mentorship and my belief in education as empowerment. I have mentored students of all ages, from fourth graders in Alabama's Bright Key Tutoring Program to high school girls aspiring to high-achieving careers. I also have experience doing microbiology benchwork research, peer-to-peer instruction, and curriculum reformation. These experiences have been made possible through programs such as those funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Upon graduating from Wellesley I was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi honor societies.
When I tutor a student I strategically tailor the tools we use to their needs. I believe that the tutor and the student are a team, collaborating together to reach a common goal. I pay close attention to detail and am careful to notice a student's learning style, abilities, and patterns which all affect their performance in the subject they are struggling with. My focus is to be student-centered whether I am guiding a peer through anatomy or helping a younger student unlock their potential in math or science, I lead with empathy, clarity, and curiosity. I love encouraging others and I have found that tutoring gives me a unique opportunity to do that and more!
