Bio

I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2013 with a B.S. in Biology. I am passionate about all things biology related, from the inner workings of the cell to the complications of the various ecosystems. I also crave algebra and the stimulation of solving a math problem puzzle. I love the art of wordcraft and understanding and molding the English language to accomplish a goal, either in essay writing or creative writing. After graduation I worked as a Veterinary Assistant, but after relocating across the U.S. I mostly used my biology degree to create biological specimens in the form of my four fantastic children. When I began the process of teaching my eldest to read I was reminded of the joy that teaching and tutoring can bring.

I have been tutoring with Wyzant for a little over 2 years, in a wide variety of subjects.. I have tutored a number of IB Biology students who go on to get a score of 7 (of 7). I have helped several college students improve their grades in classes from Ichthyology to Botany to Astronomy. I have helped several elementary- and middle-school students through pre-made as well as me-made homeschool curricula. I love helping students connect the dots and find the fun in the subject they are studying.

I am prepared to tutor in a wide variety of subjects, but my passions lie mainly in biology, chemistry, math, and language arts. I'm excited for the opportunity to explore these subjects and their challenges with students of all ages and levels! I have a number of tricks up my sleeve to help you achieve your academic or curiosity-based goals in a wide variety of subjects. Put me to the test! I love learning and teaching and am excited do so together.

Botany

Botany

I have previously tutored Botany for a number of students on a different platform. I am well-versed in cladistics (the study of classifying plants/organisms on an evolutionary tree), botanical terminology, plant structures and function, and conservation issues that are the focus of a Botany course. Many botany courses focus on the differences between plant structures and morphology as different species evolved over time - and I know how to make it fun, interesting, and attainable!
Homeschool

Homeschool

My tutoring style in most subjects begins with the stance of "teach it like you're teaching to an kindergartener and then move up from there", which is especially helpful when actually teaching kindergarten! I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in a variety of topics, from general math and reading to specialized areas of study such as marine biology. I do this not only with my own children, but also with students from public school and homeschooled environments in their own homes, or online. I know how to push through roadblocks, apply novel methods to teach frustrating materials, and make the drudgery of the basics into a fun adventure geared toward grades from Kindergarten through university. I am a homeschooling mom myself to 4 children, as well as a tutor to all grade levels in all subjects.
Zoology

Zoology

I have previously tutored Zoology for a number of students on a different platform. I am well-versed in cladistics (the study of classifying animals on an evolutionary tree), zoological terminology, animal anatomy, and conservation issues that are the focus of a Zoology course. I also have hands-on experience in field studies, animal husbandry, and veterinary assisting.

Excellent experience!

Angela was wonderful! She helped my daughter refine her IA for IB Biology. My daughter is very quiet, but I could hear her chattering away during her zoom session with Angela. My daughter felt very confident after her tutorial session, and we will be scheduling more sessions with her going forward!
