Hello,

I am excited to share about my experience with you. My name is Troy P. I am currently a director of a university library. I graduated with a 4.0 gpa as an undergraduate and graduate student. I am a published academic author.

I have focused significantly on technology since becoming a librarian. I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science.

I have experience teaching band, choir, music composition, music theory, percussion ensemble, and jazz band at the high school level. I have taught private lessons in performance since 2014.

For music lessons, I do not show up and "wing it." I prepare a lesson plan and, if I see a student multiple times, I will keep track of each lesson and note progress.

For lessons with children/teens, I value parent communication about progress, and the student's personal goals often guide the song selection.

I am very approachable and do not mind answering questions that you may have about my tutoring experience. I have taken a break from tutoring on Wyzant, which is why my featured reviews are a bit dated. Hopefully, you can be a new positive review!

great first lesson

My son really enjoyed his first lesson and couldn't wait to show me what he learned. He talked and talked about how cool Troy is and the things he learned during the class.

excellent

Troy is so patient with my son (who "has it all figured out"). He is taking time to focus on specific needs instead of just throwing songs at him to practice, and Troy takes the time to make sure my son understands. This is the second lesson and we will be scheduling more soon

Knowledgeable and fun

My 11 year old son really enjoyed his lesson with Troy. It was an introductory lesson and Troy went through Wyzant and took time to learn about the music my son likes. my son is looking forward to more lessons in the future.

Review after a couple weeks away.

I had missed a couple of lessons due to illness one week and a storm the following week (no electricity.) we reviewed and he provided feedback and instruction. I needed that.

Guitar instructor

Worked on string and fret hand skills and focused on a few songs to build skill. Focused on tempo and timing and beat recognition. Troy is always prepared, patient and enjoyable to learn from.

Knowledgeable and helpful

He taught me how to access my diaphragm. I was able to learn how to warm up my vocal cords. Troy is very good at showing me what I need to do and what I need to accomplish in order to pursue music therapy and audition for the program.

Dedicated, thorough and flexible

Troy makes sure you understand what he is teaching and takes his time. He reviews as necessary or moves on if you're ready. For the first time I am understanding things I could never fully comprehend.
