Hello! My name is Jason. I am a highly qualified, certified, teacher with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Athens State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from The University of West Alabama with a concentration on English Language Arts. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Media Production from the University of Alabama.

I have been teaching high school full time for five years. Before that, I taught as a substitute for one year and an In-school Suspension Aide for four years. As a substitute teacher and aide, I taught grades K-12 and a variety of proficiency levels. As a full time teacher, I have taught standard 9th,10th, and 11th grade English Language Arts, Honors 10th and 9th grade English Language Arts, PreAP 10th grade English Language Arts, and AP Language and Composition (11th grade). I have taught classes in size ranging from 40 to 7 and have operated classes from virtual, hybrid, and traditional settings. I also work as an assistant football coach and sponsor a tabletop gaming club at my school. I have also been working as an online tutor for the past year. So far, I have worked in single sessions and recurring sessions with 5th, 9th, and 10th grade students from multiple different locations.

My passion lies with literature and teaching. I believe that a person's life becomes more enriched through educational opportunities and the sheer process of learning. I also believe in the power of my subject to enhance a person's life and interaction with society. Whether it is reading a book; watching a play, television show, or movie; or enjoying interactive media such as video games or tabletop RPGs, analysis and discussion of media and literature is a skill that provides its own reward through enriching social experiences. It is through the process, that strong analytical writing that alters society's thoughts about a topic becomes possible.

English

English

I am passionate about English Language Arts because I love promoting literacy and discussion of grammatical, argumentative, and literary elements. I have been a full time English Language Arts teacher for five years. In that time, I have taught 11th Grade ELA, 9th Grade ELA, Honors 9th grade ELA, 10th Grade ELA, Honors 10th Grade ELA, and AP: Language and Composition. I have also worked as a tutor for the subject.
Film

Film

During my time earning my media production degree in 2012, I studied film and television extensively as part of my coursework which required me to write, produce, edit, and direct short films for class. I also worked as an intern for a newsroom (WVUA) where I learned and performed mechanical production duties such as running a camera, operating a teleprompter, filming for news stories and editing using both traditional tapes and digital software (Final Cut Pro). After college, I worked a few freelance jobs both in filmmaking and video production. I have worked as part of a crew for a 48 hour film festival project, and as an independent videographer and video editor for commercial projects; where I created commercials and advertisement reels for a bathing suit clothing line and a Southern Baptist church service.
General Computer

General Computer

I have been an enthusiast in computer usage since I was six years old playing games on the family computer. Throughout my lifetime, I have become a proficient typist, Microsoft office user, Celtx screenwriter, and Google Suite applicator. Currently, as a high school teacher, I use Google Suite applications daily, so I have become highly accurate and efficient at creating documents, sheets, slideshows, and classroom assignments.
Literature

Literature

I am a full-time high school English Language Arts teacher and lover of literature. I have taught advanced and standard 9th, 10th, and 11th grade classes and AP Language and Composition. Across my three degrees, I have developed a proficiency in studying and analyzing literature. My major literary focus is on the plays of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries, 19th century and modern American poetry, and modern or postmodern era novels and short stories. I am passionate about literature both for its role in displaying or shaping the time period in which it is written and the phenomenon of its literary elements and prose transcending time to offer insight to any time period.
Praxis

Praxis

I am a full time High School English Language Arts Teacher. I passed the Praxis Core (All Parts) and the Praxis II English Content Knowledge on my first try (around 2018). I enjoy helping other professionals break through the barrier that this test creates, so they can begin helping students with their own teaching skills.
Proofreading

Proofreading

As a high school English Language Arts teacher with a master's degree, I have consistent experience editing student papers from a rough draft state to prepare for a finalized draft. I have a passion for teaching students how to express themselves clearly and professionally, so that their unique thoughts aren't muddled by insufficient presentation.
Reading

Reading

I have a Masters in the Arts of Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Arts. I am also a full time high school English Language Arts teacher. I have taught 9th, 10th, and 11th grade honors and standard ELA classes and AP Language and Composition classes for five years. I also have a separate Bachelor's degree with a minor in creative writing. I have a passion for reading and literature that dates back to early college. This passion is what drove me to become and English Language Arts teacher. For me, there is no greater joy than teaching others how to better express themselves in creative and precise ways and how to read actively to enhance comprehension and create greater engagement with the text.
SAT Reading

I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential through student-centered practice and personal guidance.

I also have two Bachelor's degrees (Media Production and English Language Arts w/teaching certification) and one Master's degree (MAT for English Language Arts). I have a passion for learning and providing learning opportunities for others. I believe that successful Academic pursuits provide some of the most satisfying experiences in life, and I am happy to play a part in framing the academic pursuits of my students.
Video Production

Video Production

I have created videos from high school as well as throughout and beyond my time pursuing a media production degree at the University of Alabama. My time at UA was split between producing short films for film classes, running cameras for newscasts and sporting events, and filming/editing video packages for my own and other reporters' stories at the WVUA student news station. After obtaining my degree, I acted as videography for a few freelance jobs including a sizzle package for a bathing suit clothing line and a commercial for a baptist church. With all this experience, I am confident in my technical and creative skill with video production.

Highly recommended for help with improving your writing.

We have been using Jason (weekly) for more than 2 months now and I can't emphasize enough how his calm, positive demeanor has helped my 8th grader. Every week, they are working on reading stories and articles to help with reading comprehension and improving my child's writing in thematic argumentative essays. They work on making sure the thesis is defensible and the evidence and commentary supports the thesis. Excellent writing requires more reading and practice with writing. I know with Jason's help, my child will be more ready for high school writing. I believe that Jason can help kids of any age and hopefully inspire them to love writing more.
