I am a current rising sophomore at Yale studying English, offering guidance for high schoolers working on their college essays. I applied and was accepted to Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and Brown, and I believe my experience working on these applications prepares me to help applicants get into their dream schools. I also attended a creative writing program in high school and received a variety of recognition for my writing, ranging from publishing three books with small presses to being selected as a 2018 National Student Poet (the highest award for teen poets). I want to assist other students with their essays using the skills I've learned by writing college essays and studying creative writing, whether this means helping high schoolers find unique essay topics within their life or revising their essays for clarity.
I attended a creative writing program at a local magnet school from 7th-12th grade. There, professional writing teachers honed my ability to clearly and concisely convey information on the page, which was ultimately very helpful when writing my college essays. The creative work I wrote has been published in literary magazines as well as three books published by small presses; Grimmening (Diode Editions), In Migration (BAM! Publishing), and Holding Myself Hostage in the Kitchen (Lit City Press). I was also selected as a 2018 National Student Poet, a position which required me to teach poetry workshops in high schools around the US, an experience which prepares me to communicate with teens about their writing. Now that I am a sophomore at Yale, I am continuing to pursue my love for literature by majoring in English.
My achievements in writing, from the poetry which has earned me my book publications to the essays which have gotten me into my dream college, are a result of my love for the craft. I get a great feeling of satisfaction from sharpening a piece of writing until it is as effective as possible, and this determination makes me a useful source of guidance for college essays.
