I recently graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a B.A. in English. I have a passion for literature and for helping students overcome struggles they have in the classroom. I am someone who benefited greatly from the help of a tutor as a young person in school. I understand the frustration that can come from trying your hardest at something and still not performing the way that is expected of you. For me, math has always been something that has not come naturally to me, and while I excelled in most of my other classes, it seemed like no matter how hard I tried, I still struggled to make high grades in math. I was fortunate enough to have a tutor who was patient with me and easy to talk to. Her enthusiasm for math was able to reach me in ways that the classroom could not, and her patience with me made my daily assignments less frustrating to get through. She was able to give me the kind of thorough attention that I couldn't get in school and to point out and help me correct my errors that allowed me to learn and grow, and in turn make better grades.
I am ready to pass on this experience to other students struggling with the things that come easiest to me. I have not had to take a math class in a long time, but I have been fortunate enough to nourish a passion for reading and writing that I have had since I was very young. I am ready to take the education I have gained and share it with those who are experiencing the same frustration I did when I was their age. I know I can provide that patience and understanding that is necessary to guide a student toward a better performance in school, and can make their experience with their English class less frustrating and if not more positive, at least much less difficult.
I have had advanced coursework in academic writing, literature, advanced grammar, and even linguistics. While in school, I worked as an intern at B-Metro magazine, a work study at the BSC Communications Office, and a freelance writer for the Birmingham Business Journal. While in high school
