Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "I cannot live without books." My goal is to encourage struggling readers to feel the same way! I consider it an honor to help children fall in love with books who have previously found reading frustrating. My family owned a bookstore for years and it was always a delight to help people find literary treasure! I have a M.Ed from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN and am trained in the Wilson Reading System, an multi-sensory, research-based instruction method that caters mainly to challenged readers K-adult. It requires at least 2 sessions per week, parent involvement and an ongoing commitment, but is very thorough. I also tutor all K-6 subjects, specializing in English, writing and grammar. I teach out of an office convenient to Hoover/Homewood/Mntnbrk/Vestavia and the 280 corridor, with a lovely waiting room. It is free of distractions that are found at home or in public spaces and I am able to utilize more materials. I will travel further than 10 miles for an additional fee. I am the mother of one son who is a graduate of Samford University. Thank you!

Diane is very thorough with her initial and weekly assessments. She's also very knowledgeable on History which my boys enjoy. She's very patient and has always has an upbeat and positive attitude.
Our son has been working with Diane on reading for a little more than a year now. She is so patient and works so well with him. His improvement has been astounding. She really has a love for what she does.
She is such a joy and is very helpful! She keeps it fun and my daughter enjoys (even looks forward) each visit. My daughter has been very disappointed whenever we had to cancel an appointment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a Wilson Method Reading Instructor with a Masters in Education and have helped children with dyslexia gain competence and confidence in decoding (reading) and encoding (writing and spelling). I also love to foster a love of reading and storytelling in literature.
I have loved the English language all my life. I am an avid reader and writer and have been accepted into the Sewanee School of Letters to earn a MFA in Writing. I have a MEd and enjoy all things word, speech, book and story!
I have been trained in the Wilson Method of reading instruction, a very in depth model with high success rates for challenged readers. I also hold a Master's in Education. My students must be willing to commit to at least two sessions per week, long term, with parent involvement. The investment is high, but so is the pay off! Thank you!
