I am a PhD graduate of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). I've been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over 20 years. I am a PhD graduate of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). I've been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over 20 years. My strongest personal characteristics in tutoring are that I'm good with children and adults with anxiety or attention deficit disorder, patient with the student, and encouraging. There are objectives that I have when tutoring the student: explaining the material so that the student understands it, building self-confidence in the student's ability to solve problems, and helping the student enjoy the learning process.

I often incorporate relevant history of the topic in order to grab the student's interest. For example, René Descartes introduced the cartesian plane. Legend has it that Descartes discovered this coordinate system when lying in his bed and watching a bug move across the ceiling. He became motivated to describe the movement of that bug -- hence the cartesian plane. I use a hands-on approach to guide the student in his/her discovery of Descartes revelation.

I have been diagnosed with ADD twice, once as a child, and again as an adult. I believe having the disorder helps me understand the struggles of an ADD student. I have also tutored a child in 5th grade with ADHD. My effort was well received, I found that my experiences helped me approach the solution in a manner that kept his attention. I've also taught several courses at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). The classes almost always included at least two students with the disorder who required special attention. Finally, I'm patient -- patience will always be needed when tutoring a student with ADD/ADHD.

I have a PhD in math. I've taught algebra 1-2 for over ten years at the college level. I've also tutored high school students in the subject with much success.

I have taken students in 2nd and 3rd grade through their future curriculum with the textbooks the parents provided. The parents wanted the students to get ahead in their subject. This was done as I was working for respected tutoring companies. I get a long with the children and understand what they need to learn their material. I also have a phd in math. haha

I did very well in the course when I took it and tutored students after I graduated. Only a couple of students, but once you get it it's like riding a bicycle. Never forget.
