I am a Ph.D. behavioral neuroscientist and experienced college instructor with a passion for helping students build real confidence in statistics, psychology, and research methods, and academic writing. I earned my Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, awarded through the Department of Psychology, along with a Graduate Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics and a M.A. in Psychology, and a B.S. in Psychology, Cum Laude, from Kennesaw State University.

I served as Instructor of Record for ten sections of an undergraduate statistics laboratory course, independently designing and delivering hands-on training in statistical concepts and software to students who often came in feeling anxious about math. Many of these sections were taught remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. I also spent years as a graduate teaching assistant across statistics, research methods, and psychology courses, and mentored first-year students navigating challenging coursework and research work in behavioral neuroscience.

My research spans clinical rehabilitation psychology, human neuroscience and neuroimaging, and quantitative methods. I have used functional MRI, MEG, and EEG to study memory, cognitive function, and visual processing, developed and evaluated behavioral interventions for cognitive rehabilitation after stroke and long COVID, implemented exercise interventions for people with epilepsy, and analyzed data using R, MATLAB, SAS, Stata, and SPSS. This gives me a strong foundation not just in statistics itself, but in how it is actually used in real psychological and neuroscience research. I find real examples help students understand why a concept matters, and not just how to compute it.

Whether you are working through introductory statistics, research methods, or experimental design, a psychology course, or trying to understand a concept in human neuroscience, I focus on meeting you where you are, breaking ideas down clearly, and building the kind of understanding that sticks.

Approved Subjects

Anthropology

Anthropology

I completed an undergraduate minor in Anthropology at Kennesaw State University alongside my B.S. in Psychology. While my graduate training moved into behavioral neuroscience, I have maintained an interest in the intersection of anthropology, culture, and human cognition, and this perspective informs how I think about behavior and development in my own research. My expertise here is strongest at the introductory and survey level rather than advanced anthropological theory or fieldwork methods. I am best suited to students in introductory cultural or biological anthropology courses.
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I hold a Graduate Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics and apply biostatistical methods directly in my own clinical and neuroscience research. My work has included designing and analyzing a controlled pilot trial of an exercise intervention in people with epilepsy and evaluating outcomes for a randomized controlled trial of a cognitive rehabilitation therapy. I am experienced with study design, longitudinal modeling, and small-sample clinical trial statistics using R, SAS, and Stata. I can help students connect statistical methods to how they are actually used in real clinical and biomedical research.
Career Development

Career Development

As a postdoctoral fellow, I mentor first-year behavioral neuroscience students and have served as a judge and panelist for undergraduate research competitions and capstone presentations. I have navigated my own multi-year academic job search across postdoctoral, faculty, and industry paths, giving me direct, current insight into the process. I am comfortable helping students think through career direction, build application materials, and prepare for interviews, particularly for research, graduate school, or academic paths. My experience is strongest in academic and research career planning rather than general corporate career coaching.
Debate

Debate

I have successfully defended both a doctoral dissertation and an earlier master's-level thesis in front of expert academic committees, along with regularly defending my research findings at national scientific conferences. My coursework included philosophy classes that trained me directly in formal logic and argumentation. As an undergraduate, I regularly attended formal debates and participated in informal debates on philosophical and religious topics as a member of both my university's atheist club and the Ratio Christi apologetics club, giving me practice constructing and defending arguments from multiple perspectives. I can help students build clear, well-supported arguments and think critically about opposing viewpoints.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I hold a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience and have spent over a decade studying the brain, behavior, and child development as a research scientist. As Instructor of Record for ten sections of a college statistics course, I have extensive experience breaking down technical, science-based concepts for students at very different levels of preparation. My current postdoctoral research is part of the largest study of early childhood brain development ever conducted, giving me a strong, current foundation in how children learn and develop. I enjoy making science concepts concrete and hands-on rather than abstract, which matters especially at the elementary level.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications, a doctoral dissertation, and public-facing science writing intended for general audiences. I have extensive experience revising and tightening my own writing for clarity, structure, and argument across academic, professional, and public formats. I regularly write and edit application materials, research statements, and scientific manuscripts as part of my current work. I can help students strengthen structure, clarity, and argument in academic essays, personal statements, or general writing assignments.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I have years of experience working in Unix-based environments through Linux and extensive shell scripting used in my own scientific computing work. After using Windows exclusively for twenty years, I made a full transition to Mac and became proficient quickly, since macOS shares the same Unix foundation as the Linux systems I already knew. I now have strong, current expertise with Apple Silicon Macs specifically, including their performance characteristics and the workflow differences from Intel-based machines. I can help students and professionals troubleshoot everything from basic Mac navigation, to command-line and terminal-based tasks, and to parallel processing using Homebrew tools.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I use Excel regularly alongside R, MATLAB, SAS, Stata, and SPSS to manage, clean, and analyze research data as part of my work as a postdoctoral scientist. I am comfortable with core Excel skills including formulas, functions such as VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, data validation, and worksheet organization. I recently completed formal assessment of my Excel skills and passed with a strong understanding of both foundational and more advanced features. I can help students at any level, from basic spreadsheet organization to more advanced formulas and data analysis tasks.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I hold a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and currently work as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Neurobiology. My research has used fMRI, MEG, and EEG to study memory, epilepsy, and early brain development, and I have taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students throughout my training. I have authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and presented at national conferences including the Society for Neuroscience and the American Epilepsy Society. I enjoy translating complex neuroscience concepts into clear, accessible explanations for students at any level.
Proofreading

Proofreading

As a published researcher, I have proofread and revised my own scientific manuscripts, grant materials, and application documents extensively throughout my career. I pay close attention to grammar, clarity, and consistency, particularly in technical and academic writing. I also regularly help mentor students and colleagues in revising their own written work for clarity and correctness. I can help with anything from a short essay to a longer academic or professional document.
Psychology

Psychology

I earned my Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience through the Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, along with a B.S. in Psychology from Kennesaw State University. My research spans clinical psychology, cognitive rehabilitation, and developmental psychology, and I have taught and served as a teaching assistant across multiple undergraduate psychology courses. I helped develop a behavioral intervention for cognitive impairment after stroke and long COVID, giving me hands-on experience with applied clinical psychology. I am comfortable tutoring across introductory psychology, research methods, cognitive psychology, and developmental psychology.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have presented my research at numerous national and international scientific conferences, including the Society for Neuroscience, the American Epilepsy Society, and the International Epilepsy Congress. I have given both poster and oral presentations to audiences ranging from small research groups to large conference sessions. As a college instructor, I have also spent years presenting technical material clearly to students with a wide range of backgrounds. I can help students build confidence and clarity in both academic and general public speaking settings.
Statistics

Statistics

I hold a Graduate Certificate in Social & Behavioral Statistics along with a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience, and I served as Instructor of Record for ten sections of an undergraduate statistics laboratory course. I use statistics daily in my own research, including regression, longitudinal, and multivariate modeling in R, MATLAB, SAS, Stata, and SPSS. I have years of experience as a teaching assistant for statistics courses and have specifically worked with students who struggle with math anxiety. I focus on building genuine conceptual understanding rather than just formula memorization.
Study Skills

Study Skills

As Instructor of Record for ten sections of an undergraduate statistics course, I have direct experience helping students build effective study habits, particularly those who come in feeling anxious or underprepared. I have also mentored first-year students navigating the transition to demanding coursework and served as an academic mentor throughout my postdoctoral training. I recently completed formal training and assessment specifically in study skills coaching. I focus on building genuine time management, organization, and active learning skills rather than one-size-fits-all study tips.
Thesis Writing

I completed a Ph.D. dissertation in Behavioral Neuroscience and have authored or co-authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. I have experience structuring, writing, and defending original research across both quantitative and clinical research designs. I also have direct experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers through their own thesis and research projects. I can help with everything from structuring an argument and literature review to refining data presentation and defending your work.
United States History

United States History

I have taken formal coursework in U.S. history and have continued studying the subject independently as a serious, long-term personal interest. My strongest areas of focus are the Civil War period and modern U.S. history more broadly. As a Ph.D. scientist, I bring strong research, critical thinking, and source-evaluation skills to how I approach historical topics. I enjoy helping students understand historical events in context rather than as isolated facts and dates, especially a psychological, philosophical, and anthropological context.
