Hello! My name is Sammy, and I hold both a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I tutor high school students preparing for both the ACT and SAT, with a focus on helping students strengthen their content knowledge, test-taking strategies, accuracy, and timing. I also bring firsthand experience with standardized testing, including a 34 ACT composite score with a 36 in English and a 35 in Reading.
I currently provide one-on-one test preparation tutoring to high school students. During sessions, I help students review missed questions, strengthen underlying concepts, identify patterns in their mistakes, and develop personalized strategies for improvement. Depending on a student's individual needs, we can work on math and problem-solving skills, grammar and writing conventions, reading comprehension, data interpretation, or broader test-taking and time-management strategies.
My teaching approach focuses on understanding why an answer is correct rather than simply memorizing rules or shortcuts. I want students to develop the reasoning skills needed to approach unfamiliar questions confidently and recognize where their mistakes are coming from. Every student has different strengths, challenges, and score goals, so I tailor each session to the individual student and focus our time on the areas where it can have the greatest impact.
If you're preparing for the ACT or SAT, I'd be happy to discuss your goals, current performance, and the areas you'd like to improve. My goal is to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, strengthening your skills, and becoming a more confident test taker. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
