I am a college-level history instructor and writing coach with over 12 years of teaching experience in both secondary and higher education. I have taught 8 years at the undergraduate level, where I instructed 28 courses in U.S. History (primarily post-1865). I also have 4 years of high school teaching experience, including AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Human Geography, U.S. History, and Government for grades 9–12. My experience includes both classroom instruction and one-on-one academic tutoring. My background is unique; my dual-experience as a high school teacher and undergraduate instructor strengthens my credibility, and effectiveness, at both levels. I also have experience tutoring on Preply, where I consistently earned 5-star reviews from students across different academic levels, from sophomores in high school ,to corporate clients in the business world. I can help you with AP World History, AP U.S. History, college-level history courses, academic writing, and college application essays.

I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in U.S. History from UC-San Diego. I also hold a Master’s degree in History from University of Akron, and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Kenyon College. I was also a certified high school history teacher in Maryland.

I primarily tutor college students and high school AP students and college students, focusing on both academic writing, and content mastery. For AP students, I align instruction with College Board expectations, focusing on DBQs, LEQs, and exam preparation aimed at scoring a 4 or 5. For college students, I focus on essay writing, research papers, argument development, and primary source analysis. My greatest strength, however, is as a writing coach.

Across all levels, I emphasize critical thinking, writing clarity, and understanding historical causation rather than memorization. My teaching style is fast-paced, enthusiastic, and tech-savvy, designed to keep students engaged. You will have fun, and get results, working with me!

Welcome! I spent eight years mentoring college students one-on-one in academic writing, including one year at the University of Akron and seven years at the University of California, San Diego, helping them develop, edit, and significantly improve their essays and research papers. I also completed a 240-page dissertation over five years involving extensive archival research in locations including Penn State, UNAM in Mexico City, and Washington, DC, followed by multiple rounds of revision with my Ph.D. mentors, which informs how I teach long-form and argumentative writing. In addition, I taught 28 undergraduate U.S. History courses, and bring extensive experience helping students translate complex academic material into clear, structured writing. I work with students on essays, research papers, revisions, and proofreading, with an emphasis on thesis development, evidence use, and clear, persuasive academic prose. My goal is to improve your writing and grades immediately, and teach you skills that will serve you well throughout your undergraduate and graduate careers.

I spent eight years mentoring college students, and worked one-on-one to develop, edit, and significantly improve their academic writing—one year at the University of Akron, and seven years at University of California, San Diego. I have taught 28 U.S. History college courses, and I enjoy nothing more in teaching than helping my students understand the historical record, while becoming stronger, more confident writers. I was also proudly a certified Social Studies Teacher in Maryland, where I enthusiastically taught AP World History, APUSH, AP Human Geography, and Government classes. I prefer to teach in-person, but have also taught online for 1.5 years during COVID, and most recently, with college and high school students on another global tutoring platform. I work closely with my students on DBQs, LEQs, essays, and research assignments, showing them how to build thesis statements and topic sentences, contextualize their arguments, effectively utilize 2-3 outside historical sources, all while of course analyzing Documents 1-7. To earn higher grades, I make all of my students commit to the fundamentals of writing, and more broadly, learning History. My sessions are structured, fast-paced, engaging, and yes, fun; my students not only improve their performance, but their confidence as well, all while enjoying the process.
