I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Studies from a Liberal Arts College. This unique degree granted me an expansive interdisciplinary education; I studied studio art in classes like Drawing 1 & 2, Sculpture, Film Photography, Video Arts, Art History, Theater Set Design, 3D Art, and 2D Art. This degree also nourished my development in S.T.E.M. with classes like Urban Environmental Studies, Calculus, and Physics. Additionally, I acquired a minor in psychology, helping me understand the human brain, our five senses, and how we interpret the beautiful world around us.
I obtained my Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia School of Architecture. This three year program rivaled my liberal arts background, exposing me to the more saturated curriculum of a research institution. I took classes that focused on using technology and digital programs to produce architecture. I learned how to think (more) critically, make digital drawings and models, communicate with effective graphics, and have conviction in my ideas.
However, I am more than my formal education! I have learned and developed skills through non-academic experiences that have made me the warm, caring teacher that I am today. I was a competitive swimmer through college- always a part of a team and always having a coach. I loved my swimming community so much that I spent most of my summers coaching summer league. Here I learned how to communicate effectively and have patience as I interacted kids and parents of all ages regularly. I also learned how warmth and being a good listener are the most valuable attributes of an effective teacher or coach. Through my formal and informal experiences, I have learned about things and people and I know I can translate this knowledge into a format that is helpful to those who are seeking it!
