Encouraging and Skillful Elementary Language Arts tutor

Hi, I'm Stephanie and I'm excited to tutor students in Elementary Language Arts.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, K-6 from the University of Missouri - Columbia.

I graduated in 1996 with magna cum laude honors and received my teaching certificate from the state of Missouri. I taught at Ridgeway Elementary in Missouri- Columbia for two years. I had a classroom of 22 students teaching language art, science and social studies. The students I taught were second and third graders. After teaching I started a family. I've gained knowledge about ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and 504 plans by my children attending the Midland School System in Michigan and Auburn City Schools in Alabama over the years.

I'm currently tutoring 3rd and 4th grade students in reading. I've been working with my students on comprehension, context clues, grammar and other areas for the past 6 months. I am also tutoring a student in math for him to achieve his GED at the Lee County Literacy Coalition.
When I teach I use various teaching methods such as student-centered, teacher-centered and personalized teaching. In addition to teaching methods I use a multitude of teaching strategies to convey, engage and build self-confidence in students. I use teaching strategies like phonological awareness, fluency, read-alouds, summarizing and text structure. I'd like students to benefit from our tutoring sessions.
