Univ. of Cincinnati (Aerospace Engineerin)
I have a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, and practical work experience in mechanical systems, some electronics, some optics, and some chemistry. I am currently an organic farmer/gardener, a writer, and active in political processes. My background gives me insight into mathematics and a broad range of the sciences, as well as art, especially as related to various media of sculpting. Being the father of eight home-schooled children has given me the patience and insights required to help students grasp the nuances of needed knowledge of a given subject that may elude them due to any number of disparities. I have maintained a secret security clearance for over 40 years, which is still current, and is indicative of meeting requirements for a background clearance screening.
I lost my job as a test engineer in March 2013, due to the government's sequestration program, and have been unsuccessful at finding similar employment since then. It is for this reason that I am expanding my horizons with tutoring, to earn some extra money to stay off of the government dole system. I worked as the Santa Claus at Florence Mall for the last two Christmas seasons, which was quite an enjoyable experience. It included interfacing with "kids" of all ages, who wanted to have a short confidential session with Santa as a means to complete their holiday cheer. I have always enjoyed mentoring the younger people around me, whether at work, churches, or community gatherings. I have a strong sense of family, and although I have minimum of official tutoring experience as of this writing, I totally enjoy passing my accumulated knowledge to those with whom I have come into contact, assuming they have that interest also. I am a published writer of poems, a writer of short stories, and I have in the works a fictional children's book and a non-fiction commentary on present day Americana. My son had a real hard time in math. With Mike he finally wanted to learn so much so that he wanted to stay longer each time. My son was eager to go back each time and for a child in 9th grade to finally find someone that could help him and feel good about himself is great. I highly recommend having Mike as the only one you pick for a teacher. He really should be the teacher of the year.
Mike is really helping my son to improve his math proficiency and pay closer attention to details! His patient style is perfect fit and I definitely see an improvement in his approach to and interest in math!
Mike went out of his way to help our son. We really appreciated that and he has a very positive attitude.
Ben had his first session with Mike on Monday. Ben was very pleased with his session with Mike and told me that he has more confidence with his algebra/finance class now that he has someone that can explain the principles in a way he can understand clearly. Very much recommend Mike for a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
A significant portion of my tutoring experiences are for ACT math prep. As an Aerospace Engineer, using math and mentoring younger engineers in mathematical techniques was an essential part of my duties. Learning how and being able to handle crucial situations in a timely and correct manner is quite similar to the expected performance of test taking, so these preparation techniques are important for a tutor to pass on to students.
I am currently researching opportunities on starting up a small business for performing tests to detect genetically modified organisms (GMO) for crop seeds, foods, and plants.
I am an effective tutor for Algebra I concepts. I have a broad background of math experience useful for helping students who may have missed out on some of the basic-level math skills that are required for understanding the more advanced math classes. Learning how to apply these concepts effectively is very important to students who need to advance into higher math skills, so selecting the proper tutor is consequentially important too.
I designed and built my unique at-grade, minimum maintenance, solar-heated house, with 4200 square feet of living space, where I have lived for over 33 years. I have completed all of the art classes necessary to obtain a sculpture degree. I have obtained a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, with structural design as the main field of expertise. I have designed and built multiple unique out-buildings on my property.
I have completed all of the necessary art-related coursework at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) to obtain a degree in sculpture. This includes art history classes both at UAH and at the University of Cincinnati, for classical and the more modern art venues. I have been awarded prizes at various shows for sculptures, silk-screening, painting, printing, mixed-media, and photography. Several of my works are in the permanent collection of the UAH art department.
I am a licensed preacher, but have never held a full-time time position as such, since I believe that the Bible teaches that a preacher should not be paid. I believe that the old and new testaments agree with each other and that they are both intended to be examples of how we should live our lives and treat each other. I believe that not only does the Bible agree with itself, but that it also agrees with scientific evidences, most theories (not evolution), and with what we can see in the world around us. I have never tutored Bible studies before, but I have taught church school to both children and adults. My family and I are charter members of the Answers in Genesis organization, and its Noah's Ark project, both of which enable people to better grasp the truths found in the Bible.
I am a published poet with insights into how the English language is structured and how to know when its rules are to be followed, and when circumstances require deviation from those normal conditions.
GED questions are more about life than you might think. Having a diploma that proves you know how to exist as an adult in an adult world is a treasure you already possess, you just don't have the paper to prove it. Let me help you learn how to get that paper, and a more fulfilled life thereafter.
Pre-algebra concepts introduce a decisive movement into a specialized part of math that delves into new concepts and application processes. As a tutor with many hours devoted to students in need of learning these concepts, my background has proven quite effective.
I have many hours of tutoring experience in the area of pre-calculus, including how the aspects of algebra and geometry apply thereto.
Although it has been many years since I actually took the SAT and ACT tests, I have had a full career as a mechanical engineer. This has kept me actively involved in mathematics at all levels, as well as necessitating a knowledge in general science and its applicability to real life scenarios. These combined skills enable me, as a tutor, to help my students train for achieving higher SAT scores.
I am a published poet, and a member of the Alabama State Poetry Society. I enjoy studying the way that authors and poets use their creative instincts to develop characters, plots, and conclusions through their individual capabilities. I am also a member of the Rogersville Library Book Club, and am currently in the process of writing a children's fictional book, as well as two political commentary books.

Trigonometry deals with shapes, angles, functions, and the interrelationship between them. Having developed the skills to apply these concepts properly through higher education and everyday engineering tasks, passing them on to students is an enjoyable undertaking as a tutor, who also understands the frustrations facing students who are unfamiliar with these concepts.
