Hi, I'm Austin! I graduated with honors from Grinnell College with a major in mathematics and a minor in statistics. I also hold a master's from the Georgia Institute of Technology in analytics. I come from a family of educators from elementary school to college and everywhere in between, and their teaching and teaching styles have shaped how I learn. I found in college that learning in the classroom setting was very difficult for me. Often times, I would take my coursework back with me and study and teach myself the way that worked best for me. I personally realized that everyone learns different and one style does not mean success for everyone. Coincidentally, I really enjoy helping others solve problems and understanding why and how things work. Many a friend has reached out to me with help understanding their coursework, which I am more than happy to share and help them understand. I prefer one-on-one focused tutoring although small groups work just as well.
I was a mathematics tutor for one year my senior year of high school and a physics/math tutor that summer at a local community college. For two summers during my undergraduate years, I was an ACT prep tutor specializing in math and science at an Upward Bound Math & Science program. Most of my other experience has been ad-hoc as friends or relatives would ask me to tutor them in subjects such as elementary and middle school math, physics, calculus, Algebra I&II, statistics, and R.
Ultimately, I care about helping students understand the subject they are trying to learn and then preparing them for future work or classes. I firmly believe success will follow from understanding and preparation. Please feel free to contact at your convenience, and I will reach back out with a swift response. Any documents, resources, or methods that help you learn are more than welcome.
