Hello! My name is Stacy, and I am a 5th grade reading teacher in Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in education in 2010 from Western Governors University and LETRS certification, which is grounded in the science of reading. I also serve as a math tutor at Hartselle Intermediate School. I am passionate about helping students grow in both reading and math by using clear, structured, and research-based strategies that build strong foundational skills and confidence.
In my classroom, I work with a wide range of learners, including struggling readers and students performing on or above grade level. I focus on key reading skills such as main idea, inference, text structure, and vocabulary development. I also help students learn how to respond to text-dependent questions using strategies like RACE, which supports them in writing clear and complete answers. When working with students in math, I provide targeted support and step-by-step explanations to help them better understand concepts and feel more confident in their abilities.
I primarily work with upper elementary students ages 9–11 and teach over 100 students each day through whole group instruction, small group intervention, and individualized support. I use student data to guide my instruction and ensure that each student is getting what they need to be successful. My goal is to help students not only improve their academic skills, but also build confidence and feel capable in the classroom.
