Hi, I'm Julie! I have degrees in mathematics and civil engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and teaching has been an important part of my life for many years.

I tutor GED math, pre-algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. I especially enjoy working with adults who are returning to school, preparing for the GED, or wanting to strengthen their math skills. I'm also happy to work with older high school and college students.

My teaching experience includes working as a GED instructor, teaching pre-calculus for the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP), and tutoring high school students who needed to make up credits. As a GED instructor, I helped adults with math, English, test-taking skills, and, just as importantly, the encouragement they needed to keep going when school felt difficult.

One of my earliest teaching experiences was volunteering with a local literacy program. I worked with a mother who wanted to learn to read so she could read to her children at bedtime. Each session, we worked on a Dr. Seuss book so she could read it to her kids that night. That experience has stayed with me because it showed me that education is about more than learning a subject-it can help people accomplish things that are personally meaningful to them.

That idea continues to shape how I tutor. I like to start with what you already know and connect new ideas to your life, work, interests, and goals. Familiar examples and analogies can make math less abstract and more relatable.

If math has ever made you think, "I'm just not a math person," I'd love to help change that. My goal is not simply to help you get the right answer, but to help you understand why it's right and become more confident solving the next problem on your own.
