I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from Hampshire College and have completed extensive graduate coursework in Education and Educational Technology through Dowling College, Western Carolina University, and the University of Alaska Southeast. I am a certified English teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience at the middle school and high school levels. For nearly two decades, I taught International Baccalaureate Philosophy and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) courses, in addition to supervising Extended Essays and teaching AP Seminar. These advanced courses required guiding students in critical thinking, formal academic writing, and original research. My background also includes coaching Academic Decathlon, where my team placed second statewide, and designing curriculum for at-risk and credit recovery students, ensuring diverse learners could achieve success.

Throughout my career I have worked with students from ages 13 to 18, helping both high-achieving learners in honors and IB programs as well as those needing extra support to graduate. I have taught in rural Alaska, urban high schools, and interdisciplinary programs, giving me a broad perspective on student needs and learning styles. My approach emphasizes clarity, patience, and structured guidance. I work closely with students to break down complex assignments, strengthen their writing and reasoning, and build the confidence they need to excel. Whether supporting a student with a challenging Extended Essay, preparing for AP or IB assessments, or refining a college admissions essay, I provide tailored coaching that helps them meet and exceed expectations.
