Hello, my name is Carrie. I am a retired speech language pathologist and tutor who has worked in the public School settings since 1992. I graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University – Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders & a Minor in Psychology. I subsequently graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas Pan-American with a Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a special emphasis In Multiculturalism and Bilingualism. During my undergraduate studies, I held a work-study position as a teaching assistant in remedial reading & writing. I have worked as a school-based speech pathologist helping students acquire the skills to be successful in the general curriculum. Over my career, I have worked with children and adults.
As a tutor, I have worked directly with students to support the learning of classroom content. I am able to create creative lesson plans to captivate the learner’s interests while introducing new concepts in meaningful contexts. I make an effort to teach cross-curricular lessons using the student’s strengths & interests in other areas to facilitate learning in challenging domains. I welcome insights from the student and/or parent to tailor a learning program that best suits the student. If you would like more insight about my experience and qualifications, or would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to contact me.
I graduated from my undergraduate program one English class shy from acquiring a double major. Because I was a starving student & had a family to support, I opted not to attend another semester of school to take one class. I’m an avid writer & have excellent oral & written communication skills. I have a special interest in written language & can teach compensatory strategies to improve one’s writing skills.
I have an active Alaska Type C certificate for special education (speech pathology). I retired in April 2019 after being employed as a speech language pathologist in public schools s
