I have been working with children with mental disabilities for nearly a decade, and honestly, it never feels like work to me. My training includes RBT, CPI Crisis Prevention, Safety Care, Montessori certification for ages three through six, and paraprofessional training — but what really shaped me goes so much deeper than certifications.
I have had the privilege of working across multiple school districts in Oregon and Alaska, supporting students from kindergarten all the way through age 21. I have sat beside kids in classrooms, led breakout groups, followed individualized behavior plans, and shown up for the ones other adults quietly hoped would be assigned to someone else. Those are my favorite kids. The ones who are "too much." Because I see exactly what they are — children who need someone to believe in them without giving up.
And here is the thing — I get it personally. I am a mom of five, and I homeschool four of them at home, preschool through sixth grade. Two of my own children have mental disabilities, an eight-year-old with ADHD and a ten-year-old on the autism spectrum. Every single day I am not just a specialist, I am a parent in the trenches right alongside you. I know the hard days. I know the breakthroughs that make you cry happy tears in the kitchen. Your child will never feel invisible with me. They will feel seen, heard, and completely valued — I promise you that.
