We are seeking a patient, encouraging, and perceptive math tutor for our 16-year-old daughter, who will be an incoming high school junior this fall. She needs to review Foundational Math and relearn Algebra 1 so she can tackle Algebra 2.
Our daughter is capable, but currently lacks the confidence she needs to excel. Because of this, we are looking for someone with a gentle demeanor who can build her up. A background in psychology, counseling, or child/adolescent development is a huge plus, as understanding the emotional side of learning blocks will be key to her success.
Due to a roughly two year gap in foundational math skills (particularly concepts from middle school), she has struggled with test-taking in Algebra 1 and Geometry. We need a tutor who is willing to patiently "meet her where she is," diagnose those foundational gaps, and reteach the material without judgment.
Ultimately, the goal is to solidify her foundations so she can confidently tackle her upcoming coursework in Algebra 2.
