I’m looking for an in-home Mandarin tutor for my two children, ages 6½ and 4½, at our home. Mandarin is spoken at home, so they are not learning Chinese as a completely new language.
My 6½-year-old son can already read Chinese independently. For him, I would like to focus more on reading comprehension, vocabulary, speaking, and written expression, rather than simply learning basic characters.
My 4½-year-old daughter is at an earlier stage. For her, I would like to focus on building her interest in Chinese, character recognition, reading, and age-appropriate speaking and expression.
Since Mandarin is already spoken at home, we are particularly looking for someone who has experience teaching heritage Chinese-speaking children and can help them develop stronger literacy and age-appropriate reading and writing skills.
Ideally, we would like each child to have two hours of individual instruction per week, scheduled back-to-back on the same day at our home — two hours for each child, for a total of four hours. We are looking for someone who can work with them consistently on a long-term basis.
