My son is a high-school student with two years before college. He has struggled with reading and writing since early elementary school and needed tutoring beginning in kindergarten. When he was younger, he frequently confused letters such as b/d and g/p. Reading and writing have continued to be his weakest areas, while math and science are much stronger for him.
He has been educated through an unschooling approach in recent years, so there may also be academic gaps from not following a traditional English curriculum. Our goal now is to determine his actual reading and writing level, identify the specific areas causing difficulty, build those foundational skills, and prepare him for college-level work, dual enrollment, and eventually the SAT.
