About Thomas:

Experienced engineering professional with a great deal of Math both theoretical and practical. I have tutored college-level calculus, differential equations, and physics to freshman and sophomores. I have tutored high-school level algebra and calculus. In addition to the above, I have thrre years experience teaching Middle School math in public schools. I enjoy teaching and tutoring. I use the real-world and practical examples to facilitate understanding. I show alternate ways of arriving at the correct solution. I also teach test-taking strategies. I often use a Socratic method in which I ask a sequence of questions to determine possible stumbling blocks in a student's approach to understanding and mastering of the subject. I try to engage the student in doing their own thinking and reasoning in solving problems. I don't believe in doing tons of homework just for sake of doing work. I prefer assigning a few challenging problems that makes use of the student's higher-order skills in problem solving.
