Over the past 3 years, I have tutored subjects ranging from ESL to chemistry. My initial tutoring experiences were in chemistry with specialties in both general chemistry and organic chemistry. As I explored chemistry tutoring, I began working at a writing center as a consultant. In my spare time, I taught middle school children Spanish in an after-school program.
My tutoring experiences can be traced to the other side of the world. While studying in China for a semester, I taught ESL to Chinese adults in 1 on 1 sessions. Shortly after returning from China, I began working at a community college resource center tutoring biology and chemistry. As of recently, though, I've been working at a private learning center as a writing, SAT and chemistry tutor.
Most of my tutoring experiences have been personalized for the student. I have worked with as many as 15 students at one time, but it was not by preference. My specialty and true passion is for private tutoring, particularly when it comes to the sciences. I feel it is important to maintain eye contact with students. This helps set the tone for discussion. Teaching and tutoring should engage students not flood their ear drums. My past students have been very appreciative of the attention and honesty I applied to our sessions. My enthusiasm lightens moods as well, making even molecular hybridization sound interesting.
My impending May graduation from Stonehill College has me very excited about my future. I look forward to continuing tutoring well beyond my college years. |
