About Kelly:

I'm a crazy, passionate and very capable high school Science teacher. I have taught for seven years, six of which were in NYC. My first year here in ATlanta, I took a chance teaching middle school Science and loved it but I missed teaching high school and am back doing so in Gwinnett County.

My greatest attribute is my ability to connect to any student. My students see, very quickly, that I love what I do and genuinely care about them. They are able to open up and give their all and allow me to do the same.

I have taught SAT English prep, Creative Writing, Health, Earth Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Ecology and Physical Science. I have led a book club in the craziest of places, an inner city, all boys school in Harlem and they loved it. I am very experience in writing and do so quite often, so if you need reading or writing assistance, I'm your tutor.

If there is something I truly do not know, I will make sure I do by our next session. I believe in hands on experience and lots of conversation. You should be able to voice your concerns and I should be able to address them freely. You will find, very early on, that I am quite easy to talk to and 'know my stuff'. Finding a more diligent, enthusiastic and confident tutor may be hard to do because this tutor gives 150% every day in and out of the classroom. Toodles-till we meet.

More On Kelly's Subjects:

  • study skills

As a teacher of seven years, I have come to understand that conceptualizing information is only a part of success. Each student has to have the maturity to understand that thier responsibility lies outside of the classroom. I encourage my students to rewrite their notes the day they are given in an attempt to 'reteach' the material to themselves. While rewriting, students see what mistakes were made and are able to correct them and if not, are able to bring questions back to class for clarification. I love visual organizers. They give students the opportunity to see information in a different, more interesting way. Studying entails verbalizing, visualizing, writing and repetition in most cases. I do not believe in soley memorizing. I believe that a student should be able to relate the concepts to real life so that the information 'sticks'. My list of necessities: * Repitition * Verbalizing * Rewriting notes * Making questions for discussion (from notes) * Keeping a neat, organized binder * Visual organizers * Highlighting information in text * Working in tandum with instructor (teacher/tutor)
