If you are a parent, scrolling through all of these potential tutors, you may find yourself wondering how to pick the right one?
Has your potential tutor worked as a tutor before? I hope so.
Has your potential tutor worked with kids as a summer camp counselor?
Has your potential tutor coached middle school kids in flag football and basketball, teaching them lessons outside the classroom?
Has your potential tutor been to four continents, making him world-wise and a better teacher?
Has your potential tutor had past work experience as a paralegal in a law firm and as a lab assistant at a medical school?
Has your potential tutor maintained his grades throughout high school and university?
If you feel these conditions are important, then I'm your guy. My name is Michael McGillicuddy and I am confident I can improve your student's grades by stressing the fundamentals of whatever subject I am tutoring, by emphasizing good study habits and good organization, and most importantly, by adapting my methods to the individual involved. One size does not fit all in my book. |

Michael's Experience:
basketball
|
I have coached a season of middle-school basketball for the city of Scottsdale. I also played in high school and continue to play a couple times a week presently. Furthermore, I watch quite a bit of college basketball, which is more nuanced in offense and defense than the professional game.

elementary (k-6th)
|
I have extensive experience working with young kids in an instructional setting. I have two seasons of coaching under my belt, one in flag football and the other in basketball. In both seasons, parents would approach me and tell me how much their kid has improved and enjoys the sport.
I was also a camp counselor for two summers. I worked with all ages of kids in those two summers, from age six to age 13. I instructed in a variety of activities, and most importantly, taught them how to get along with one another.
Though I have never taught younger kids in a scholastic environment, I feel I am qualified. I have been a teacher of sorts outside the classroom and I feel that because the material is not difficult for me, I will be able to get it across, just like I have done while coaching and as a counselor.

guitar
|
I have been playing guitar for over five years. I took lessons from an exceptional teacher and I would try to follow his methods. I believe that with guitar, unlike a more scholastic area, the student should decide what he wants to play. That being said, I would use the material the student wanted to play and introduce relevant material about the music, chords, and general music theory. In this way, the student would not feel the information was force-fed and it would resonate.
I know an eclectic mix of songs, from rock n roll to classical pieces over 400 years old. Knowing material from all genres helps show the student broad patterns that traverse all of music. The notes and chords in all songs are more or less the same, it is the presentation of those elements which define music.
