fraction conversion help or something please

 meat casserole calls for 4 1/2 tablespoons of minced garlic if this recipe serves 8 people what amount of garlic is needed to serve 6 people

4.5/8 = x/6
 
Let's cross multiply:
 
6 x 4.5 = 8x
 
27 = 8x
 
3.375 = x
 
This is the number 3375/1000
 
Reduce:
 
3375/1000 = 675/200 = 135/40 = 27/8
 
I divided by 5 each time.  
 
If you want a mixed number, it's 3 and 3/8

i came to the same answer using long division just couldn't figure out that it was in 1/8's i was working on making it a 1/4 thanks for the help
